McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (May 26, 2006) – South Dakota’s Jake Peters took full advantage of a timely red flag to capture victory honors in Friday night’s 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region feature at Junction Motor Speedway.

Current series point leader Brian Brown slipped around Peters on the 14th round for the point, only to have the move negated for Michael Woodruff’s turn four tumble. Given a reprieve, Peters led the rest of the way to snare his first ASCS Midwest Region feature win aboard the Weseman-powered Folkens Brothers Trucking/Bubba Farms No. 57x Schnee.

“That first yellow couldn’t have come at a better time for me,” Peters confessed after the victory. “I came up on the lapped car and got in a little too hard and got off the bottom and Brian got by me.”

Peters earned the pole position for the feature by racing from seventh to second in his heat race, then outgunned fellow front row starter Mike Chadd to take the early lead in the feature.

As Peters slipped away from the field, Brown disposed of Chadd for the runner-up slot on the second round. But Peters encountered lapped traffic by the ninth round, allowing Brown to close the gap.

When Peters went to the high side on the 14th circuit, Brown dove to the bottom in turn two to take the lead, only to have the move nullified by Woodruff’s tumble.

Peters took off on the restart, leaving Brown and Chadd in his wake as Rick Ideus took fourth from Jon Corbin. Even a final red flag for Chad Humston’s turn four flip with 21 laps in the books couldn’t deter Peters’ victory drive, as he cruised to the checkered flag over the final four rounds unabated.

Brown settled for second, with Chadd, Ideus and Corbin rounding out the top five. Doug Lovegrove crossed the stripe sixth, with Dusty Zomer, Seth Brahmer, 17th-starter Don Droud, Jr., and J.D. Johnson completing the top ten.

Heat race wins were claimed by Chadd, Corbin, Zomer and Lovegrove, with Droud topping the 12-lap “B” Main.
