Livingston and Hartman Lead First Time Winners at I-80 Speedway

By Joey Sparano

Dave Livingston, Scotty Hartman, Greg Ryba, and Rob Kubli all saw their first "A" feature wins of the 2006 season, as Kosiski Auto Parts presented the Midwest Auto Recyclers Night at Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway.

The 20 lap NASCAR Dodge Division III Crate Late Models would see Kent Schimenti jump out to an early lead. As the racers roared down the back straight away after completing lap one, top ten runners Tony Leonardo and Randy Archer would make contact coming off of turn two. Archer's car would barrel roll three times until coming to rest on it wheels. Ten cars would be caught up in the incident, but all drivers walked away uninjured. On the restart second place runner Jon Schwartz would have his #18J spin out in turn two collecting the #25 of Brad Perdue. After another caution on lap three, the race would get under way with Scott Carlson taking the lead over Billy Leighton Jr, Jody Krug, and Schimenti. The race would see its final caution four laps later on lap seven when Leighton would loose control of his car on the bottom of turn two. All drivers would take evasive actions and miss the #28 causing no damage to his car. After that it was all Carlson and he would lead the final 13 laps. In post race inspection track officials would find Carlson's #2x one pound to light, causing him to be disqualified. Dave Livingston would take the win. Schimenti finished second. Leighton would recover for third. Dave Doll took home fourth and Jason Hobsheidt would get fifth after being in the lap one accident.

The Certified Transmission Pro Ams would see outside pole sitter Jason Cieslik take the early lead over pole sitter Rick Negrete. On lap five ninth place starter Joe Feyen would pass Negrete for second, and tenth place starter Scotty Hartman would fall in line behind Negrete in fourth. But Hartman's #88 would be the class of the field and he would take the lead on lap 12 of 18. Hartman would continue on to take the win over Cieslik. Feyen would take third. The #36 of Shawn Bulin came home fourth, and Negrete would finish fifth.

The B-Modified class would see its biggest car count of the short season, while the #5 of Harry Nixon took his second feature win. Points leader Floyd Richards would finish second. Jim Fritz, Larry Robinson Sr., and Jim Hendricks Jr. would round out the top five.

The Smoke Free Nebraska Pro Hornets had second year driver Joe Baker wheel his #9x out to an early lead. On lap two Baker would give up the top spot to rookie Brian Willard's #33t. Just as fast as Willard gained the lead, he would loose it to ninth place starter Greg Ryba. Ryba would hold off a late charge by Austin Kurtzer and take the win in the seven lap main event. Williard was third, Cory Hutchinson was fourth, and Rick Havenridge took fifth.

The SFN Novice Hornets would see points leader Nate Christensen stay perfect on the season scoring his third feature victory in as many nights. Bryan Hull, Justin Soule, Eric Fryman, and Nathan Brown was the remaining top five finishers.

Tonight was the first of six selected nights that the 305 Sprint Cars would take the track. In the small field of five, Rob Kubli would take the win, Steve Hurst was second, Matthew Stelzer was third, Trish Dover was fourth, and Michael Oliver rounded off the field. A special thanks goes out to Josh of Trail Performance Powder Coating, James with Trade Center Automotive and Marc and Lori Dover of 3 D Auto Transport, Inc, for adding additional money to the purse for the Sprint Car class.

Tomorrow night is Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace Night. Wallace will race his #36 St. Louis Cardinals modified, while Schrader wheels his #99 Red Baron Late Model. Admission is $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors and students, and children 10 and under are FREE. Also NASCAR NEXTEL Cup regular Carl Edwards is expected to be in attendance.
