ASCS Northern Plains Battle Shifts to I-90 This Friday

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 21, 2008) – Lee Grosz and Eric Lutz are
locked in another battle for the American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains
Regional championship. And they'll continue that battle this Friday night
when the series invades I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD.

Grosz outlasted Lutz as well as Dave Glennon to capture the series crown
last year.

Now, the 20-year-old from Harwood, ND, is vying for a second series title
aboard Doug Howells' Wesmar-powered Bergstrom Electric No. 4J J&J.

With the initial half-dozen events of the season in the books, Grosz holds a
34-point advantage over Eric Lutz, who is trying to capture his first series
title aboard his father's Bruns-powered Dell Rapids Chevrolet/Pontiac No. 5
Schnee after finishes of second and third the past two seasons.

Friday's action at I-90 Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m.

The high-banked, 3/8-mile I-90 Speedway dirt oval is located three miles
west of Hartford, SD, on SR 38. For more information, contact the track at
605-528-6380.

The ASCS Northern Plains Region is set for 11 nights of racing action at
eight different tracks throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota,
Nebraska and Iowa in 2008.

The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen
different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly
American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car
Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights
of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different
states and Canada.

Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available

Dover Dominates Eagle ASCS North South Shootout; Smith, Wulf, Noonan also Take Checkers

By Greg Soukup

The ASCS North/South Sprint Showdown and Man Cave Night, presented by Jack
Daniel's were held at "America's Home Track" Eagle Raceway Saturday. A sunny
hot July afternoon gave way to cooler temperatures as the evening wore on.
Although only 4 of the ASCS Northern Plains Region racers participated, two
other visitors showed up to make sure that the heat on the track never
diminished. Jack Dover and Robby Wolfgang made the trip to Eagle for the
show; and what a show it was!! Throughout the heats and into the features
there was three and four wide racing. There were 3 major incidents in the
heats also.

In the Budweiser Championship/ASCS 360 Sprint Heat #2 Mikey Gabelhouse's 7G
slid up the track going into turn one and made contact with ASCS Northern
Region points leader Lee Grosz in the 4J, sending him flipping up and over
the turn 2 wall and coming to a rest on his wheels. After being pushed to
the work area and having his sprinter checked over he rejoined the race.

In the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified 4th heat, Chad Anderson ran his
#8C head-on into the backstretch wall. Anderson's car was damaged too
severely to be repaired and his night was over.

In the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock 2nd heat, Steve Shepard made hard
contact with the front stretch wall in his #20T. Shepard would make repairs
to his racer and come back out for his B Feature.

The first A Feature was for the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks. Mike Hansen
brought his #94 to the lead with Nick Beckman's 22 and Shane Hiatt's 21H
behind him. Last week's Feature winner, Jerry Keaton moved into third on lap
#3. On the next lap, Rob Brown's #42 suffered a flat tire, bringing out the
yellow flag. On the restart, Derick Noonan saw the engine expire in his #21
bringing the yellow out yet again. On lap 5, Keaton advanced around Beckman
for 2nd, but was repassed by the 22 on lap 8. Shortly after that Keaton spun
to the infield, dropping him to the rear of the field. This allowed Justin
Wulf to move his #86 into the third position. At that time it was Hansen,
Beckman and Wulf in the top three spots. Wulf passed Beckman with 3 laps to
go and then took the lead from Hansen on the next circuit. At the finish it
was Wulf, Hansen and Beckman.

"I'm really happy with the win after starting 10th" Wulf said. "The track
was really good tonight. I liked it because I could move all over and run
anywhere" he continued. "This was our third A Main in a row, and we're going
for #4 tomorrow night. I need to thank a lot of people, starting with my
crew. Tim & Todd Wulf, Dave Volnek, Brian Crone and Joe Speice are the ones
who make this car run so great every night" he finished. Justin's sponsors
include Wulf & Sons Farms, Renegade Seating, Volnek Welding, Team G Spot,
Ken's Smoke House, Traeger Grills, J & J Grading and Sidewinder Chassis.

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified A Main was next. Tracy Harr's #21T
came around to the start-finish line first, followed by George Haney's 12X
and the #95 of Dylan Smith. Ed "Doc" Raines got his 11AA around Smith on the
second lap, the red flag flew on lap #4 when Aaron Pella flipped his #3A
after heavy contact with the cushion. On the 2nd lap of the restarted race,
Smith got back around Raines to regain third, and then moved past Haney on
the following lap. Unfortunately for Smith the yellow flag was thrown for
Brian Cudly who spun in turns 1 and 2. On the restart, Smith wasted no time
as he moved into the lead in 1 turn. He was followed into 2nd position by
Chris Alcorn's #3, Tracy Harr and George Haney. On the next lap, Haney
retook the third spot from Harr. With just 10 laps remaining, Alcorn got
past Smith when Smith pushed up the track. From there to the finish it was a
terrific battle between Alcorn and Smith. Running side by side the rest of
the way, the two took turns leading the race. Alcorn appeared to be headed
back to victory lane until he went low in turn three on the last lap and
Smith took advantage of Alcorn being slowed by lapped traffic to pass him
for good on the cushion. At the finish it was Smith, Alcorn, Chevy Hadan's
#4 and the V45 of Rik Gropp.

"It was so awesome running door to door with Chris the last 10 laps. After I
pushed up and he got by me I knew I had to really work hard. I always know
that Chris will race me clean and I don't need to worry at all. But when I
saw Chris go low on the last couple of turns, I had to go where he wasn't.
So, I took the high side and he got trapped" Dylan stated. "I need to give a
big thanks to Mike and Lisa Goecke, my mom and dad, Grandma and Grandpa,
Damion and Joni Smith, Danielle and Avery and of course "Diesel". Dylan's
sponsors include Active Life Family Chiropractic, Marquardt Plumbing, Hot
Rods by Todd, Augustin Electric, Vrbka Ag Solutions, Cappy's Hot Spot Bar &
Grill, Burke Show Cattle, Phil's Steakhouse and White Eagle.

It was then time for the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts to run their A
Feature. Jeremy Noonan took the early lead in his #33 with Larry Cronin's #5
in second and the 55 of Garrett Rech in third. On the next lap, Jake Sells
took his #21 around Rech. Cronin's car began to smoke on the next lap, and
he eventually retired shortly thereafter; bringing out the yellow. At that
time the running order was Noonan, Rech, the 45 of Jack Prall IV and the #2
of Dan Rhiley. On the restart and for the next several laps Sells, Rhiley
and Prall IV were racing three wide around the high banks. With 6 laps to
go, Rhiley moved into 2nd with Prall IV following him to take over third. A
caution for debris brought out another yellow flag. During the lineup
procedure, Rhiley was set back 2 spots for rough driving. That made the
order Noonan, Prall IV, the #62 of Justin Busboom and Rhiley. Rhiley managed
to get around Busboom with 4 laps left, but could advance no further. At the
checkers it was Noonan, Prall IV, Rhiley and Busboom.

"Our old car had gotten pretty beat up, so we figured it was time to bring
out the new one finally. But, new car or not, we still had problems. The
belt came off in our qualifier and luckily we noticed it as we were heading
for the A Feature" Jeremy said. "It was great to be able to win for the
second time tonight, but that's thanks to the really fast track" he
continued. "I need to thanks my parents, my brother, Todd Sanford, all of
Section C and my girlfriend Taylor Sanford" he finished. Jeremy's sponsors
include Suds 'n Scissors, Brodd's Small Engine Repair, Longoria's MMA
Academies, Richard J Mazour DDS, Tracy's Collision Center, Ron Fox & Sons
Service, Advanced Auto Glass and Sanford Lawn Service.

The finale for the evening was the Budweiser Championship/ASCS 360 Sprint A
Main. On the initial start Frank Galusha jumped the cushion in turn #1 and
made contact with the wall in turn #2. Galusha was uninjured but unable to
continue. On the restart Gene Acklund took his #14G to the front followed by
the 71 of Tige Jensen, Jeff Griffis in the #3 and the 76 of Jay Russell.
Griffis wasted no time, passing Jensen on the low side on the second lap.
That same lap Jeff Grosz took over fourth from Russell. 5 laps later Grosz
also passed Jensen and moved into second when Griffis bobbled in turn #4. He
then moved around Acklund the next lap. Jack Dover was the racer on the move
however. Dover had advanced to the third position by lap #9 after he
transferred from the B Feature and starting 19th. Dover took over second
position with 13 to go and 4 laps later moved under Grosz to take the point.
Jay Russell brought out a yellow flag when he spun in turn #4. This gave
Dover the clean track that he needed. Jason Danley took advantage of the
stoppage however, overtaking Acklund on the restart to move into third. It
was clear sailing for Dover as he once again emerged victorious. Grosz held
on for second and Danley came home third.

"What a night" Dover said. "We got here late, and then we had to rush to get
the car ready for our heat. We made it, but blew up the motor that we had
just gotten back this morning. So, we put in an old bullet that's run 28
shows already; but it did the job and got us the win" he continued. "This is
4 straight wins for us now, and I owe it to my mom and dad and the best crew
anywhere. Randy, Michael, Paul and Stu Snyder did a great job tonight
getting us back out there and setting the car up for the win". Dover's
sponsors include 3 D Auto Transport Inc., RMS, Trail Performance Powder
Coating, Thorpes Auto Body, Eckley Racing Engines, Eagle Chassis, Keizer
Aluminum Wheels, ATV Motorsports, Speedway Motors, Bell Racing, Butler Built
Professional Seat Systems, Design 500 Racewear, FK Rod Ends, Brown and
Miller Racing Solutions, CMET Excavating, NOS Energy Drink and BA Photos.

entertain everyone. Front gate admission for Adults and Youth 6-13 years old

Eagle July 12: Dover, Alcorn, Wulf and Rhiley Win Musical Mini's Night

By Greg Soukup

Eagle Raceway, “America’s Home Track”, had “Musical Mini’s Night” presented by Round the Bend Steakhouse tonight. Clear, sunny skies greeted the fans who showed up to see the night’s racing action. A shower Friday night and a sprinkle Saturday morning led to a very fast track. Lap times in the heats were close to the track records. The quick times were an omen for the fabulous action in the features later on.

In the preliminary events the only bad incident began after the green flag dropped for the Budweiser Championship 360 sprints. Mark Pace came past the flag stand and was forced high going into turn one. This resulted in Mark launching his #31 sprinter over the implement tire at the pit entrance. His race car came to a rest caught up in the catch fence. Mark not only wasn’t hurt, he bowed to the fans after exiting his car as a thank you for the applause from the stands.

The first A Feature showcased the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts. First back to the start/finish line was the #5 of Larry Cronin with Matt Moyer’s #29 in second, the #72 of Ben Simpson and Garret Rech’s 55. Maynard Kinnersley moved past Rech on the second lap in his #18. Cronin’s lead was short-lived however as he rolled his car in turns 1 & 2 on the third lap. This put Moyer into the lead with Rech in second, Kinnersley in third and the #31 of Chris LaChapelle’s #31 in fourth. It took only 2 more laps for Dan Rhiley to bring his #2 up to the third spot and then into first on the next circuit. Simpson followed Rhiley into second and Kinnersley advanced to third on the same lap. There was a stoppage on lap #8 when Joey Danley lost his right front tire in turn two. The running order stayed the same until with just three laps left LaChapelle got around Kinnersley for third. On the very last lap Simpson advanced all the way to second.

“Well, the birthday boy won tonight” Rhiley said. “The Honda ran really great tonight, but it has been. This is my third win in a row so far this week. I want the fans to wish me luck tomorrow night. I fell a little behind in national championship points this week, but I’m trying to make a charge” he continued. “I need to send out a special thanks to ‘Big Joe’ at 2 Men and a Shop. He makes this thing run when I can’t” he finished. Dan’s sponsors include Ray’s Quality Towing, Max I Walker, 2 Men & a Shop and R & M Roll Cages.

Next was the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Rick Bradley held the lead at the end of the first lap in his #28B with Eric Hanson’s 33, Nick Beckman’s 22 and the 14 of Ron Novak close on his heels. Beckman got around Hanson on lap #2 for second but was passed the next lap by Don Hall Jr. in the #92. Hall then moved past Bradley on the next lap with Justin Wulf moving up to second in the #86 and Beckman in third. With 5 laps in the books, Jerry Keaton moved his #3K under Beckman to take the third spot. The very next lap Wulf got past Hall Jr. to grab the lead. Wulf then began to pull away from the field, but a red flag came out with 2 laps left when Shane Hiatt’s #21H had an engine fire as he exited into the pits. At the finish it was Wulf, Keaton, Beckman and Hall Jr.

Justin said “The track was really good tonight. It turned slick just the way I like it for the feature”. “It was a great win for us, but getting claimed kind of ruined it” he continued. “I want to say thank you a lot to Napa for adding the purse money, and a special thank you to my grandpa for letting me use his shop to work on the car” Justin finished. Justin’s sponsors include J & J Grading, Renegade Seeding, Ken’s Smoke House, Traeger Grills, Team G Spot and Wulf & Sons Farms.

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds then came out for the A Main. Scott Bivens’ S56 was in first at the end of the first lap. Close behind him were the #22J of Justin Jurgens, Doug Deterding’s 13 and Aaron Pella’s 3A. Jurgens got loose going into turns 3 & 4 on the second lap and was tapped by Deterding which resulted in him spinning in front of the remainder of the field. A huge pile-up ensued with Pella having to take his racer to the pits for repairs. On the restart Chris Alcorn advanced all the way to the third spot in his #3. On lap 7 Deterding overtook Bivens for the lead. Alcorn also got around Bivens on the ensuing lap to take second. It took Chris only 1 more lap to pass Deterding for the lead. With 14 to go Rik Gropp moved his #V45 into the third spot past Bivens. Four laps later Stacey Wilhelm also passed Bivens to take over fourth position. From there to the finish it was a fantastic back and forth battle between Deterding and Alcorn, with Deterding drawing alongside numerous times. But at the finish line Alcorn managed to hold off Deterding for the win.

“It’s good to be back in the winner’s circle. It’s been quite awhile. But, we’ve found the way to win again this week it seems. We won at US-30 on Thursday, Butler County last night and now at Eagle tonight. I’ve never done that before; I’ve gotten two in a row, but never three” Chris stated. “It was a lot of fun racing tonight, especially side-by-side with Doug for the lead” he said. Chris’ sponsors include Independent Equipment, Heavy Company, Midwest Unlimited, Spanel Racing Engines and Onyx Digital Group.

The last feature race of the evening was for the Budweiser Championship 360 sprint cars. Nick Bryan took advantage of his starting position on the pole to lead the first lap in his #6. Behind him were the #3 of Jeff Griffis, Kevin Danley’s 7X and the 82 of Jason Danley. A nasty flip by Frank Galusha’s 24B in turn #4 brought out the red flag however. On the restart Jason Danley overtook Kevin Danley to snag third. The next lap Griffis got around Bryan for the lead. After the cars passed the start/finish line Jay Russell spun his 76 sprinter between turns 1 and 2, resulting in the yellow flag being thrown. On the restart Jason Danley and Jack Dover’s #53 both got around Bryan to snag the second, third and fourth spots. On lap 4 Jason Danley moved past Griffis to take the lead away with Dover following him into second on the next lap. That same lap Gene Acklund advanced into the fourth spot behind Griffis. Dover managed to use the high side to grab the lead the next time around, but Bryan and Acklund got together causing another yellow flag situation. On the restart Mike Boston advanced his #51 to third and Josh Riggins followed him into fourth. The next caution period was a result of Toby Chapman spinning the #32X in turns 1 and 2 with 12 laps down. As the field came around on the restart Adam Gullion’s 96KX and Griffis’ 3 made contact in turn three, bringing out an open red flag period as the track was nearly blocked. Dover used a slide job coming out of turn four with 11 laps remaining to snare the lead. 6 laps later Boston also got past Jason Danley to take over second. From there to the finish it was a terrific fight between Boston and Dover as they began to encounter lapped traffic, with Dover coming home first.

“The car was just alright before the second red flag. We switched shocks and from there on the car was almost perfect” Dover said. “This was a good tune-up for next week’s ASCS race out here at Eagle. I really wanted to follow the ASCS national tour this week, but 9 days straight on the road just isn’t something we can do right now. I promised my dad that if we stayed home and raced here tonight, that I’d win” he finished. Dover’s sponsors include 3 D Auto Transport Inc., RMS, Trail Performance Powder Coating, Thorpes Auto Body, Eckley Racing Engines, Eagle Chassis, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, ATV Motorsports, Speedway Motors, Bell Racing, Butler Built Professional Seat Systems, Design 500 Racewear, FK Rod Ends, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, CMET Excavating, NOS Energy Drink and BA Photos.

Don’t forget that this coming Thursday, July 17th Eagle Raceway will have the first ever Nebraska appearance of the Bootlegger’s Run Race of Champions. NASCAR stars Ken Schrader, Matt Kenseth, Sterling Marlin and Clint Bowyer will run two 8 lap races in their late models. Kenseth and Schrader will also bring along their modifieds to try and beat the locals. Details and ticket information are available under the schedule tab to the left.

Next Saturday, Jack Daniels and The Eagle 92.9 will present the ASCS North-South Sprint Showdown and Man Cave Night. Also on the card will be the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds, Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks and the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts.

at the Butler County Motorplex in Rising City, followed by the Cornhusker
Midget Challenge July 29-30 at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction.
The midgets roar to a finale at the Speedway Motors Belleville Midget
Nationals in Belleville, Kansas, Aug. 1-2.

Racers who attempt to qualify for all four Nebraska races will be entered in
a prize drawing to win race parts and gift certificates redeemable for

The Pace Lap – July 9 2008

-We’re starting to get into “specials” season again. For just starters, this month I-80 has Carl Edwards night, Eagle with their Bootlegger’s Run NASCAR stars special as well as their big Kid’s Night. Adams County is gearing up for a USMTS event featuring Kenny Wallace, Shelby County has Fan appreciation night in about two weeks. Butler County has their fan appreciation night as well as the return of midgets. Thayer County has more Hobby Stock money on the line on Friday.

-Speaking of Butler County, promoter Jacy Todd has been giving away free pit admission and waiving registration fees for new drivers to help get more out to the track. It’s a good, SHORT TERM idea, as the back gate is likely the primary source of revenue. Cutting that lifeline even temporarily is a heck of a risk – but at least someone’s trying something. It’s the kind of things that you have to do when your track was essentially defunct for a year and being put into that situation is the kind of risk you take by ever shutting down the program, even temporarily. They’re trying and it seems to be gaining traction, along with resurgence at Thayer County.

-Midgets are coming back to the “short” tracks, Eagle and Butler County on the last weekend of July. I’ve never thought much of the small cars on big half-miles, thinking the bull-rings were the best place to watch these machines. Fans would do themselves a service by getting out on a Sunday and Monday night and watching these cars on the tracks they were meant to run. The trip from Lincoln to Rising City isn’t that long, but budget an extra 10 minutes for HWY 79 being closed from Lincoln to Raymond.

-It was a good week for Late Model fans, with over 70 making the run at I-80’s Alphabet Soup makeup and treated to a fast, racy track by most accounts after the rain. I guessed wrong this time and let the forecast keep me home. The WDRL brought a 57 car field to Eagle the following night. The track was dry and smooth, but needed watering during intermission (where my camera survived a water truck soaking – so far). The watering saved the track, but fans expecting another last-lap thriller were maybe disappointed by John Kaanta’s wire to wire win. But as late model races go, it was actually OK, and a very clean run. The wingless sprint show was also OK. Both shows were average, but if you look past that, the back-story played the lead here, a sponsorless Kaanta downing a big field of heavy-hitters, and the legacy of Eagle Raceway legends taking part in the Wingless sprint event; Don Droud, Jr, Tige Jensen, and Robby Wolfgang all ran without the sheet metal like their fathers did decades before. Sometimes not all of what makes a race special needs to take place ON the track.

-This weekend I’m probably going to be away from racing entirely. Plans for a US36 ASCS trip are likely squashed due to work, and my wife’s birthday is this weekend. Despite working at Eagle for 3 years, a racetrack is probably the LAST place she wants to be on her birthday weekend and me being at one without her…that probably won’t fly either. Family first.

Sprint Cup, car, cat...it's all NASCAR right?

I caught this when reading an article about Tony Stewart leaving JGR to
likely start his own team.

http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2008/07/09/ap/sports/d91q7n5o2.txt

One paragraph caught me:

"Assuming Stewart does buy Haas-CNC, he'll re-establish his long
relationship with Chevrolet. The partnership was partially fractured this
season when Gibbs moved to Toyota. General Motors continued to sponsor the
sprint cup (sic) teams that Stewart also owns."

Ugh.

I recall Chris Moses saying something about this on www.ovaloperations.com
but I couldn't find the link.

For the record, he owns sprint CAR teams (as well as midget teams with
rising NASCAR stars) otherwise leaving JGR to own his own Sprint CUP teams
wouldn't be news would it?

The LJS copy editor probably doesn't know the difference, but the beat
writer for the AP should know, especially since it's a two-time champion
well known for keeping an active role in his dirt roots.

Carl Edwards at I-80 This Sunday

I-80 Speedway is proud to announce Carl Edwards Night next Sunday, July 13th. Thanks to our Midwest Ford Dealers, I-80 is honored to have Carl Edwards at our speedway. It will be an exciting night on Sunday as Carl races Ed Kosiski's car, taking on his brother, Kenny Edwards. You will be thrilled to see a NASCAR Sprint Cup Racer on our own 4/10 mile dirt track! Carl is no stranger to 1-80, this will be time number three for the NASCAR racer. In 1998, Carl was named rookie of the year when Ed Kosiski won the NASCAR Late Model Championship, and the two have been friends ever since. Joining Edwards will be Freestyle Motocross Superstar Kenny "The Cowboy" Bartram.

In the sport of racing, it helps to have a few friends along the way. "The sport of racing is much like a family," Ed Kosiski explains. "When you are out on the road, it's not very cheap, any little bit helps, I mean, I've had 14 guys stay at my house before!" I'm not sure if Carl will be staying on Ed's couch because he will be in Chicago the night before in the NASCAR Sprint Cup's Lifelock.com 400. We are so happy to have Carl as part of our family on Sunday night. We hope that everyone can make it out and be a part of it too!

So what would you do for a ride with Carl Edwards? Would you eat 100 tacos? Do 1000 pushups in front of everyone? Wow, that would be intense... Luckily for you though, all you have to do is go to your local Ford Dealership and grab a $5.00 off coupon for Sunday night. When you bring that coupon to the races next Sunday, we will throw it in a hat and pick 3 at random to go for a ride with Carl!

The entire weekend will be full of events; grab your camping gear and camp on Saturday night if you want! We will also be giving away NE Lottery Powerball Tickets and Gas Cards!
July 13th. Mark the calendar. Go to your local Ford dealer. Get ready for a night filled with some camping, fun, and excitement with loud, roaring engines, and of course, Carl Edwards. Hope to see you there!

Brent Schlake grabbed the lead as twenty-one IMCA Modifieds took the green flag for their feature race of the night. Scott Bivens took the lead on lap four after a caution flag stopped the racing. Jordan Grabouski took the lead on lap six but Bivens regained the lead on lap number eight. Chris Alcorn moved into the lead for lap number nineteen of the race only to have Bivens take the lead again on lap twenty-one. Alcorn made his final bid for the lead on the white flag lap and take the win. Bivens was second, Jordan Grabouski third and Todd Topil finished in fourth.

Boston, Wilhelm, Keaton and Rhiley Win Christmas in July Night

By Greg Soukup

"Christmas in July" Fan Appreciation Night, sponsored by Colby Ridge and The
Brew 96.1 saw a great turnout. Around 300 of the best fans anywhere took the
opportunity to help out the Toys for Tots campaign by donating a toy and
received a discount on their admission. Many, many toys were also donated by
drivers in the pits. The action on the track matched the enthusiasm of the
fans with three and four wide racing throughout the evening.

In the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compact A Feature Larry Cronin's #5 was
in the lead at the completion of the first lap. Cronin was followed closely
by the #33 of Jeremy Noonan, the 28H of Jeremy Conkel and Dan Rhiley's #2.
On lap #2 Rhiley passed Conkel for third and the next lap Matt Moyer's #29
and Jason Miller's 77 also got around Conkel to take over fourth and fifth.
On the same lap Rhiley overtook Cronin and Noonan to snare the lead. The
very next lap Miller ran hard into the front stretch wall after contact with
Moyer. Miller was unable to continue. At that time, the order was Rhiley,
Cronin, Noonan and the #14 of Joey Danley. Cronin was forced to the pits
when he suffered a flat right front tire with 14 laps remaining. This
allowed the #51 of Amanda Rhiley to advance up to the fourth position. Three
laps later Amanda got around Danley for the third spot. At the completion of
the race it was Dan Rhiley, Jeremy Noonan, Amanda Rhiley and the #62 of
Justin Busboom.

"Well, we got the Ray's Quality Towing/2 Men and a Shop car up front this
time" Rhiley said. "The track was better for the tuners tonight than it's
been in quite awhile. It worked real well for us, and the Honda ran great
against some really tough competition. Fortunately for us some really good
cars had to drop out" he stated. "After last week when I didn't make the A
Feature for the first time in three years, this feels really good" he
continued. "We won last night in Alta, Iowa and now we're in first place in
Nebraska IMCA points and second in the national rankings" he finished.

The Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock Feature saw Dan Jackson's #98 first back to
the flag stand with Rick Bradley's 28B in second, the #33 of Eric Hanson in
third and the #14 of Ron Novak in fourth. Unfortunately Bradley suffered a
flat left rear tire shortly into the race and was forced to retire to the
pits. It took Jerry Keaton's #3K until 13 to go to move up to the third
spot. He was followed by Nick Beckman's 22 who grabbed fourth. With just 8
to go Beckman spun in turns 1 & 2. That put the #92 of Don Hall Jr. in the
fourth spot, with Jackson in first, Noonan in second and Keaton in third.
With 5 laps left Kevin Anderson moved up to fourth, and on the next circuit
Keaton advanced to 2nd. With only 3 laps left Noonan spun on the front
stretch due to a flat tire, sending him to the pits also. On the restart,
Keaton got around Jackson for the lead. Justin Wulf made a spectacular move
in his #86 to get all the way up to second the next lap followed by Anderson
who took over third. At the finish, it was Keaton, Wulf, Anderson and Lee
Kracht's 10K. Anderson was penalized two positions however for rough
driving. That put Kracht in third and Jackson in fourth.

"It's about time!!! With all the bad luck I've had this year, starting with
rolling the car at the start of the season, we really needed this win"
Keaton stated. "I'm going to have a HUGE cell phone bill, because my wife
Carla has been calling everybody; and I mean EVERYBODY!!!" he continued. "I
need to thank so many people who have given me so much help this season.
Marty Steinbach who runs the #5 Modified for all he's done, my pit
crew-which is Tanner Steinbach and my wife Carla who puts up with so much
when I'm working on the car all of the time, Joe Rupert and Lee Kracht for
all they do on the car, Jay's Tire & Complete Auto Care and especially Jack
Golder of Jack's Automotive Machine. Of course, I don't want to leave out
Lee (a.k.a. Nacho) for the AMSoil. And most of all I want to thank Roger
Hadan for buying Eagle Raceway and making it the great place to race that it
is," he finished.

When the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modifieds reached the end of the first
lap the leader was the 21T of Tracy Harr with Brian Cudly's 57 in second,
Steve Devitt's 11X in third and the #7 of Bob Ruisinger in fourth. It took
Justin Jurgens only 1 lap to get his #22J around Ruisinger however and on
the next lap Stacey Wilhelm's 3W also passed Ruisinger. Devitt dropped to
third on lap 6 when Wilhelm moved all the way to the second spot. Devitt was
passed by Cudly for third on the subsequent circuit with Dylan Smith
following him into fourth in the #95. Smith got around Cudly for third on
lap #12. On the next lap Chris Alcorn moved up to fourth past Cudly. Over
the last 3 laps the lead changed hands numerous times with Harr passing
Wilhelm, then Wilhelm repassing Cudly with four to go followed by Alcorn who
moved up to second. From there to the checkers it was a fierce battle
between Wilhelm and Alcorn with Wilhelm coming home victorious.

Wilhelm was unavailable to be interviewed as he left for the long trek to
North Dakota where he will be running 6 tracks in 6 nights.

The last A Main to be run was the Budweiser Championship 360 Sprint cars.
Jeff Griffis took the lead in his #3 followed by Kevin Danley in the #7X,
Tige Jensen's 71 and the #82 of Jason Danley. Soon after the race began, Jay
Russell and Chris Roseland made contact in turn #1 sending both cars
flipping. Thankfully neither driver was seriously injured. This brought
about a single-file restart. The action stopped again on lap 3 when Gage
Dorr spun his #17 at the top of turns 3 & 4, bringing out another yellow
flag. On that restart, Adam Gullion's #96KX and Mike Gabelhouse's 7G made
contact coming out of turn #2 with Gabelhouse coming to a halt on the
backstretch. Unfortunately for Gabelhouse, the damage was too severe to
continue and he was taken to the pits. By lap #5 Mike Boston had advanced to
the fourth spot in his #51 and then to third on the next circuit. Two laps
later he moved around the outside of Danley to take second. At that time the
running order was Griffis, Boston, Jensen and Jason Danley. The next
stoppage was for Nick Bryan who spun his #6 in turn two. That gave Boston
the opportunity to take the lead from Griffis. Jason Danley slowed to a stop
with just 7 laps left. This let Mark Pace move his #31 into the fourth spot.
Pace got around Jensen for third four laps later and then around Griffis for
second on the very last lap. Boston was not to be headed on this night
though as he crossed the finish line first.

"I owe all of my wins to my car owners Rick and Michelle Bowers, all of my
sponsors and my crew. They give me a fantastic car each and every night, and
all I have to do is sit in it and drive. They're the real heroes of this
team" Boston stated. "My guys didn't get home last night until 3 a.m. and
they still had to wash and set up the car for tonight. Honestly, I feel bad
because I don't do much" he continued. "The track was really great tonight,
it was easy to race. The new prep method and the weather gave us a top and
bottom groove to work with. We could run anywhere, but the top groove was so
great that I didn't leave it unless I had to" he finished. Boston's sponsors
include Eckley Racing Engines, Moock Trucking, Select Auto Body, Jones
Automotive, Vision Sports, Trade Center Automotive E & K, CMart of Crete,
Big John's Autoglass, One-Eyed Dog Saloon, Johnson Farms Rains Hardwood
Floors and Lincoln Drywall.

Next weekend is Musical Mini Night presented by Round the Bend Steakhouse
and the Blaze. All four classes of cars will be featured, and there will be
mini-van races after the A Features are finished.

Don't forget that good seats are still available for the Bootleggers Run
Race of Champions, presented by Jack Daniels. Current Sprint Cup stars such
as Kenny Schrader, Matt Kenseth, Sterling Marlin and Clint Bowyer will run
two Late Model races in addition to the regular card of Monster Energy Drink
IMCA Modifieds and Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks. There will be a VIP "Meet
'n Greet" session, autograph sessions and exclusive autographed "Bootleggers
Run" body panels. Two lucky fans will even have their dreams come true when
they become "Flagmen of Champions" and you could find yourself hitching a
ride from the airport to the track with your favorite driver. Order your
tickets and programs now by calling 402-238-2595.

Kaanta and Oliver Win Mixer at Eagle Raceway

By Greg Soukup

The Super Late Model Mixer presented by Auto Trans Matic was run under
clear skies and cool temperatures Thursday evening at "America's Home
Track" Eagle Raceway. Also on the card were the Bud Light Wingless 360
sprints, making their first visit to Eagle Raceway since they were a
regular feature last season. Among the sprint drivers were not 1 or 2,
but 3 sons of local racing legends; including Don Droud Jr. (son of
Don Droud Sr.), Tige Jensen (son of Lonnie Jensen) and Robby Wolfgang
(son of Doug Wolfgang).

Heat winners for the WDRL/NCRA Late Models were the #71 of Andrew
McKay, the #07 of Kelly Boen, John Kaanta in the 85, Bryant
Goldsmith's #24, the #14 of Kyle Berk and Eric Pember's 90X.

The Pole Dashes were then run to set the starting positions for the A
Features. The top 2 in the wingless sprints were the 1X of Don Droud
Jr. and the 77 of John Klabunde. In the Late Models the front row was
decided when Goldsmith came home first, followed by Kaanta.

In the Wingless 360 Sprint A Main Don Droud came past the flag stand
first, with Tige Jensen's #77 second and the #80 of Dylan Smith in
third. Unfortunately for Smith, he spun in turns 1 & 2 bringing out
the yellow flag. That made the running order Droud, Jensen, the #97 of
Bret Melenberge and the 2X of Gerod Oliver. On the restart Oliver
moved quickly into third, but the car on the move was the #51 of Doug
Martens. The next lap Martens got past Oliver, Melenberge and Jensen
to snag the second spot. Soon after he also got around Droud to take
over the race lead. On the same lap Oliver moved up to third behind
Droud. Shortly thereafter the 7X of Danny Lee spun out. On the restart
Matt Hasara spun his #87 sprinter in turn 2 and Lee had nowhere to go,
making contact with Hasara. Hasara was taken to the pits on the
wrecker, but Lee was able to continue. Oliver stayed hot on Droud's
heels until with only 8 laps left he got past Droud for second. It
took Oliver just 2 more laps to pass Martens for the top spot. Oliver
then held off Martens to take the victory.

The WDRL/NCRA Late Model A Feature then came onto Eagle's high banks.
Almost as quickly as it began, the race was quickly yellow flagged as
Mike Stadel made hard contact with the front stretch wall and came to
a rest at the entrance to the pits. On the second attempt at a start
John Kaanta took advantage of his front row starting position to grab
the lead in his #85 with Bryant Goldsmith's #24 in second, the #14 of
Kyle Berck in third, Eric Pember's 90X in fourth and the #25 of Chad
Simpson in fifth. Although Kaanta caught lapped traffic on the seventh
circuit, he managed to extend his lead to nearly a quarter of a lap at
times. It took 39 of the scheduled 50 laps for Goldsmith to reel in
Kaanta. But, try as he might, Goldsmith would have to settle for the
runner-up spot as Kaanta held him off to take the checkers.

"I'm happy with the win, to say the least" Kaanta stated. "Of course,
it's an advantage to start up front, but we needed that advantage with
all of the heavy hitters racing tonight. The car was great all night,
and that let us hold the lead once we got it" he continued. When asked
about his sponsors, Kaanta related "We don't really have any sponsors
this year, but we're sure looking for some. GRP Motorsports helps out
some, and Masterbuilt Chassis along with Pro Power Engines do their
thing for us also" he concluded.

Be sure to come out Saturday night for "Christmas in July" Fan
Appreciation Night presented by Colby Ridge and The Brew. Adults will
receive $5 off of their general admission price with a donated toy.
All toys will be presented to the Toys for Tots campaign coordinated
by the US Marine Corp.

Also be sure to mark your calendars for July 17th as Eagle Raceway,
"America's Home Track" brings you the Bootleggers Run Race of
Champions presented by Jack Daniels. You will have a chance to see
Sprint Cup drivers Kenny Schrader, Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer and
Sterling Marlin battle it out in TWO eight lap Late Model races on the
fastest 1/3 mile track in the country. For more details go to
