I-80: Zeitner Edges Out Kosiski With Last Lap Pass

By Joey Sparano

Leon Zeitner became the first repeat winner in the Dodge Super Latemodel class at I-80 Speedway. Meanwhile Justin Clark, Trevor Millikan, and Jesse Sobbing all picked up their first wins as USG presented the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series.

The 25 lap Super Latemodel "A" main event would see inside row two starter Jerry Warner jump out to an early lead on lap one. Warner would hold the lead for 14 laps over Leon Zeitner until a host of yellows from laps 14 to 16. One yellow included a pile up in turn three that involved Russ Hadan, Scott Koskovich, Jason Hobsheidt, and Robbie Andersen. On the restart after the lap 16 yellow, Zeitner, 16th place starter Joe Kosiski, and 2005 NASCAR Division II Champion Chris Spieker would all sneak by Warner. For the remaining of the race Zeitner, Kosiski, and Spieker would run three wide with Zeitner maintaining the point. On lap 24 points leader Kosiski would make the pass for the lead on the front shoot, Zeitner would retake the lead in turns one and two, but Kosiski pulled the cross over move down the back straightaway. Kosiski and Zeitner would race side by side in turns three and four. The drag race down the front saw Zeitner edge out Kosiski by a nose. Spieker would take third, Warner fourth, and Ed Kosiski fifth.

The Home Pride Modifieds had outside front row starter Johnnie Wyman grab the early lead over Scott Carlson and Rodney Stopak. Wyman would hold the lead for the first eight circuits. His night would end on the eighth lap when his #44 would loose a drive shaft entering turn three. Taking command of the race then was the #74 of Justin Clark who had charged from the tenth starting spot. Clark would hold the lead for the remaining ten laps to take the win. J.C. Wyman, Scott Carlson, Jerimiah Silman, and Nick Carlson rounded out the top five.

The Grand National Latemodels saw second place starter Trevor Millikan take the early lead. The race would see green flag racing until lap 11 when Tony Leonardo rolled his #96 in turn one. The wreck also involved the #2x of Andrew Kosiski, the #5 of Mike Svagera, and the #6 of Jacob Hoffman. All drivers would walk away uninjured. When racing resumed, Millikan would hold the lead over a fast charging Dave Livingston. Livingston would get along side Millikan's #22m, but he was unable to make the pass. Millikan would go on to take the win. Livingston was second. Harley Moen was third. "Shop Ron" Tilley brought home fourth, and Dave Doll took fifth.

The Stereo West AutoToys Hobby Stocks saw Jesse Sobbing take the "A" feature victory after early race leader Tom Myers lost a wheel. Jeremy Swanson was second. Justin Leach was third. Jeremy Auten and Josh True rounded off the top five.
