Carmichael Dominates IMCA Stock Cars at Beatrice Speedway

By Scott Wisdom

It was a night of new winners at Beatrice Speedway on Saturday May 13, 2006. Hugh Carmichael took his first win since 1998 in dominating fashion on Saturday night at Beatrice Speedway in the IMCA Stock Cars. Carmichael, a recently new father in his Carmichael Trenching, Schmidt Machine and lettered by Extreme Motorsports 22 machine started the A Feature outside the 3rd row and worked his way to the front and took the lead from Mike Sherwood around lap 7 and then pulled away from the field to never be challenged. Carmichael was followed across the line by Josh Carpenter, Eric Rempel, Mike Sherwood and Todd Laflin.

Greg Metz of Washington, Ks took the win by inches over Dan Nelson of Beatrice in the IMCA Modifieds. Nelson who has had his share of bad luck this season took the lead from the start and looked to be in command of the race until Metz made a hard charge the last 3 laps of the feature to take the win at the flag stand by inches with the sparks a flying and the crowd going wild. Nelson, Jordy Nelson, Tom Petracek and Spencer Sutton rounded out the front 5.

Tom Vanover JR of Beatrice put an end to the streak of 3 in row by Benji Legg by holding off Craig Evers to take the win in the Limited Modifieds. Evers, Bill Lux, Benji Legg and Kevin Vanlaningham completed the first 5. Delmar Wells of Hallam took the win in the Factory Stocks by holding off a hard charging Jeff Watts to take the win. Watts, Roy Armstrong, Mike Schwartz and Bruce Wasserman were the first 5 across the finish line.

Travis Runcie of Beatrice took the lead from Brian Langdale late in the IMCA Hobby Stocks to take the win only to lose his motor to a claim by Lisa Wagner in the 4t machine. Langdale, Fralin, Vanlaningham and Fritzson rounded out the front 5.

Nate Canham of Deshler, NE took his 2nd opening night win in the State of Nebraska in the IMCA Sport Compacts after winning the first sanctioned event for the new IMCA class at Thayer County Speedway. Canham won the first night for the new class at Beatrice Speedway. He was followed across the line by Jay Kreft of Carelton
