Peters wins Ideus Memorial

PETERS MASTERS ASCS AT I-80; DOVER WINS 305 SPRINTS and
LERETTE TAKES HOME PRIDE MODIFIEDS

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 7/03/06) The ASCS Sprint Cars Midwest Region and Northern
Plains Region locked horns at I-80 Speedway Monday night and Jake Peters came
away with the win over 34 other drivers. It was his 2nd win of the year in the series.

16 year old Jack Dover grabbed the early lead from his pole starting position with
Peters right behind him. Dover held the lead til lap 5 when Peters passed him and
went on to record the win in the 25 lap feature. A couple of cautions bunched up the
field but Peters was able to withstand these. Mike Chadd, who started 8th came
on to take 2nd away from Dover. Dover held on to 3rd ahead of Rick Ideus. Chuck
Swenson, the Northern Plains point leader started 9th and came up to finish 5th.
Midwest Region point leader Brian Brown, who won at McCool Junction Friday
night stayed at home in Missouri and raced at Sedalia, where he won that feature.
Jason Danley headed the 2nd five in 6th with Don Droud Jr. in 7th. Droud started
17th after winning the B-Feature. Doug Lovegrove was leading the 2nd heat when
something in the front end broke and propelled him into the wall and a nasty flip.
The car was destroyed. Lovegrove was transported by ambulance to the hospital
for a checkup.

In the companion 305 Sprint car feature, Dover’s sister Trish started on the
outside front row and raced to the lead in turn one after Matthew Stelzer got
the jump on her at the green flag. Trish then cruised to her 2nd straight 305
feature win at I-80. Trish is 18 and clearly the faster then her competition on this
night. Stelzer finished a distant 2nd ahead of Steve Hurst and Randy Bantan.

The Home Pride Pro-Modifieds were also on the card running an 18 lap feature
event. When flagman Larry White dropped the green on this one Tom Flegg
jumped out to the early lead only to lose it at the end of lap 1 to Jeremiah
Sillman. Sillman and Robert Brinkman then battled back and forth for the
lead with Brinkman passing on lap 3 and Sillman getting him back the next lap.
At the midway point 5 cars were doing battle for the lead with Sillman, Brink-
man, Brian Foote, Bub LeRette and Mike Meyers. LeRette took the lead on
a lap 13 restart with Meyers right behind him. Johnny “The Jet” Saathoff came
into the picture with 5 laps left. But LeRette held on for his first win of the year at
I-80. Meyers was 2nd ahead of Saathoff, Brinkman and Foote. This ended Foote’s
winning streak at 2.

The Vintage Light Dwarf cars ran a 12 lap feature with David Rafferty leading from
start to finish over Scott Nellis, Travis Long, Scott Naggatz and Chick DeMoss.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues next Saturday with the Crate
Late Models, Pro-ams, B-Mods, Pro-Hornets and Novice Hornets. Hot laps are
at 6:30 with the first green flag dropping at 7. It will be Wimmers Meats and
Fairbury Hot Dog Night at the races.
