I-80 Results 7/1

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 7/01/06) Saturday nights main events at I-80’s NASCAR Dodge
Weekly Series had 3 out of 6 features going to repeat winners; Mike Wallace in
The Crate Late Models, Larry Robinson Jr. in the Pro-Am’s and Kevin Bruck in the
B-Modifieds. Nathan Brown, David Moorman and Brandon Wergin were first time
winners in the Hornet classes.

The 20 lap Crate Late Model feature saw Scott Carlson shoot out to the early lead
from his pole position start. Sean Harker and Trevor Millikan challenged early.
But Mike Wallace was on the move from his 7th starting position and was up to
2nd by lap 6. Then he went after Carlson and by lap 13 he made the pass for the
lead. He held off Carlson the rest of the way for his 3rd win of the year. Point
leader Bill Leighton Jr. finished 3rd ahead of Dave Livingston and Jason
Hobscheidt.. Leighton is 3rd in the NASCAR Division IV points.

The Pro-Am feature saw Don Mohr, Sean Bulin and Robinson battling for the
early lead with Robinson in front at the end of lap 1. Point leader Scotty Hartman
battled his way up to 2nd in the closing laps. But despite a caution flag with 2 laps
left Robinson held on for his 3rd win of the year. Bulin hung around to finish 3rd.
Rick Negrete was involved in an accident in his heat race and had to start the
feature 24th. He charged his way through the field to finish 4th making him the
evenings hard charger. Chuck Dillon and Mohr were 5th and 6th.

Bruck started 6th in the B-Mod feature and saw Jim Fritz take the early lead.
Bruck charge to the lead on lap 3 of the 12 lap feature and never looked back
as point leader Harry Nixon finished a strong 2nd. Fritz held on to 3rd ahead
of Mike Christiansen and Daryl Weilage. Bruck said, “ I really like this
track. The car was working great.”

The Tobacco Free Nebraska Pro Hornets had 36 cars on hand so they were
split into 2 A-Features. In the first feature Steve England led early. On lap
3 Jessica Soule took a wild flip out of turn 4 on to the front chute. The car
looked pretty badly damaged but Jessica walked away unhurt. On the restart
Brandon Wergin took the lead and swapped it back and forth with Cory
Hutchison. But Wergin passed for the win at the checkers.
In the 2nd feature Joe McConnell had the lead after 1 lap. But a first time
driver David Moorman from Beaman, Iowa was on fire as he charged
through the field from his 7th row start. Moorman took the lead on lap 6
and stayed out front of a fast closing Austin Kurtzer for the win. Rick
Havenridge finished 3rd.
In the TFN Novice Hornet feature Amanda Leonardo took the early lead only
to lose it on lap 2 to Nathan Brown. Brown, driving the car he claimed from
Perry Soule stayed out front the rest of the way. Track point leader Nate
Christensen finished 3rd
