Curt McKeever: Ideus Memorial is a race worth saving

Lawrence Ideus sounds like the kind of guy all Lincoln-area sprint car racing enthusiasts would have wanted to know. Maybe that’s why his son, Rick, felt a responsibility to carry on his father’s contributions to the sport.

Since 1989, the year his dad died unexpectedly on vacation, Rick and his family have annually put together the Lawrence Ideus Memorial.

While the event offers an added purse, along with incentives (a package put together by the family), there are bigger paydays to chase. Still, if you polled drivers on the one Nebraska 360 sprint race they’d most like to win, the Ideus Memorial would be a lap up on the field.
