Blochlinger earns first Speed Bowl win

By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (June 30)—Brandon Blochlinger of Concordia, KS, won his first IMCA Modified feature of the year at The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, Friday evening, June 30.

The 20-lap race saw three different leaders in the first 3 laps in Dusty Blake, Randy Fogo and Lonnie Schriner. Fogo regained the lead on lap 4 but by the halfway mark, Blake took the top spot back. However Fogo regained the lead on lap 11, then two laps later Tim Watts took over. Fogo led lap 14 before Blochlinger took the lead on lap 15 and led the remaining distance for the win. Blake finished second, followed by heat two winner Schriner, Watts, and Todd Peterson. Jon Thompson won the other heat race.

The IMCA Stock Car feature also saw the top four drivers battle up front in their 20-lap main event. Jason Davis of Norton, KS, led the first 10 laps but was hotly contested by Campbell’s Troy Attwood, heat one winner Brett Behrends, and Josh Hudson. Attwood finally got around Davis in turn 2 on lap 14 and held on for his second win of the season. Behrends, Davis, Hudson, and Geoff Jermark rounded out the top five. The other heat race winner was Ron Olson.

Hometown driver Delbert Selvage led the opening lap of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature before Mike Shriver took the top spot. Shriver led the next 6 laps before ‘The Busman’ Jim Buss took the lead at the halfway mark of the 15-lap event and was able to pull away, even with two restarts, and scored his fourth win of the year at Red Cloud. Shriver finished second, followed by heat race winners Jared Lewis and Selvage. Wade Wagenblast completed the top five.

Guide Rock duo Ron & Kent Duffy took the lead from Terry Gradig & Gary Rannebeck on lap 4 of the 10-lap Cruiser feature to notch their third victory of the season. Joe & Pat Hersh finished second, with Gradig & Rannebeck third. Heat race winners were Joe & Jacob Krone and Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe.

Racing returns to The Speed Bowl Friday evening, July 7, as the regular four divisions return to action, along with an appearance by GOTRA (Good Ol’ Timers Racing Association). The first green flag flies at 8:00 p.m.
