FEYEN, NIXON, DOVER TAKE FEATURE WINS AT I-80;
HOBSCHEIDT MAKES IT 2 IN A ROW

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 7/29/06) The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Race at I-80 Speedway
had repeat winners in every class except the Pro-Hornets. Joe Feyen, Harry Nixon,
Trish Dover, Amanda Leonardo and Jason Hobscheidt were the repeat winners,
while Travis Meyer and Corey Askeland were first time feature winners in the Pro-Hornet Class.

The first feature on the track was the Certified Transmission Pro-am class, where
Feyen started on the pole and led all the way for his 2nd win of the year. But the exciting
part of the race was the battle for positions behind Feyen. Thad Thomson, Scotty Hartman, Rick Negrete and Shawn Bulin all battled for 2nd place. Hartman passed
Thomson on lap 7, but then on lap 10 Hartman lost it coming out of turn 2. Negrete
tapped him just enough to straighten him out so he would’nt spin. Thomson took
advantage and reclaimed second with Bulin closing fast to take third away from
Hartman and Negrete rounded out the top 5

The Tobacco Free Nebraska Pro-Hornets were up next. In the first feature Cory Askeland
Drove his best race of the season to take the win over Darin Hoegren and Joe McConnell.
In the second feature Travis Meyer grabbed the early lead from his outside front row
Start and was never challenged in leading wire to wire. Lindsey Yost drove an outstanding race to take second ahead of Brandon Wergin.

The B-Mod feature saw 14 cars take the green with Jim Fritz having an early battle with Jim Hendricks. Hendricks was in the lead after 1 lap. But Fritz took the lead on lap 3.
Lacey Tuttle moved into 2nd on lap 6, but could’nt catch Fritz. Meanwhile point leader
Harry Nixon was battling back from an early race incident that put him at the back of
the field. Nixon took 2nd from Tuttle on lap 9 and set his sights on Fritz, who is second in points. On the last lap Fritz spunout out of turn two and Nixon took advantage and picked
up his 6th win of the year. Tuttle, in probably her best race of the season, held on to finish
second ahead of Daryl Weilage and Larry Robinson Sr.

In the Trade Center Automotive/Trail Performance Coatings 305 Sprint feature co-point
leader Trish Dover jumped out front early from her outside front row start and sped to
a big lead before a car spinning in turn 2 brought out the yellow flag. But on the restart
Dover stayed out front in winning her third feature in four nights of racing. The other
half of the point leading duo, Matthew Stelzer finished 2nd ahead of Michael Oliver
and Steve Furst.

In the TFN Novice Hornet feature Amanda Leonardo led from wire to wire in picking
Up her second win of the year over point leader Nate Christensen.

The Dodge Crate Late Models started the night with excitement when Dave Livingston got the worst end of a 2 car wreck on the opening lap. He got sideways in turn one and and Kent Schimenti hit him and caused him to flip. Livingston was ok but his car was done for the night.
Veteran driver Ron Tilley jumped to the early lead and led the first 7 laps before a
yellow flag bunched everyone up behind him. It was during this race stoppage when the
third turn lights went out. When they came back on Jason “The Hooterville Hustler”
Hobscheidt made quick work in taking the lead and a close win over Bill Leighton Jr.
For Hobscheidt it was his third win of the year and his second straight. Leighton will
lead the top ten into the Race for the Chase. Kelly Boen drove Kortney Kosiski’s late
model and finished 12th behind Livingston, who borrowed Robbie Kosiski’s car.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues next Saturday with the Crate
Late Models, Pro-ams, B-Mods, Pro-Hornets and Novice Hornets. Hot laps are
at 6:30 with the first green flag dropping at 7. It will Coca Cola Night and will
also have the kids bike races.
