(GREENWOOD NEB., 07/02/06) Independence weekend saw double latemodel "A" features at the I-80 Speedway, and with that the current NASCAR Division II points leader Joe Kosiski brought home both feature wins. Brian Foote, Jody Krug, and Jesse Sobbing all picked up feature victories on Military Appreciation night at the 4/10 of a mile oval.
The first 25 lap Dodge Super Latemodel feature took awhile to get started after two pileups that collected seven different cars. When the race finally got under way it was the "Real Deal" Jeff Tilley who jumped to an early lead. Tilley would keep the lead for the first 14 circuits until the #53 of Joe Kosiski would get by for the top spot. One lap later action would slow for the spinning Alonzo Grosse. After that it was all Kosiski who went on to take his fourth win of the season. Second through fifth were Bryant Goldsmith, Scott Koskovich, Leon Zeitner, and Jason Hobscheidt.
The second Dodge latemodel feature saw much of the same. Jeff Tilley would again take the lead on lap one. This time he could only keep the lead until lap nine, that's when the #9 of Ed Kosiski passed him for the lead. Meanwhile, Joe Kosiski would make his way into the third spot by getting around the #76 of Al Zeitner. Joe Kosiski would get by Tilley and on lap 12 he would take the lead from brother Ed. A couple of minor accidents on lap 14 would make the race interesting, on the restart Ed Kosiski would get along side of Joe. After a few laps of side by side racing Joe Kosiski pulled away and took the checkered flags. His second of the night, and third straight at I-80. Ed Kosiski finished second. John Hampel finished third in Ryan Vickers #2v. Bryant Goldsmith and Al Zeitner finished off the top five.
Nick Carlson grabbed the lead early in the 18 lap Home Pride Modified feature event. When the field entered turn four to complete lap one, front runners Bill Bader Jr. and Mike Lineberry would both loose the handle on their cars. Justin Clark, John O'neal, Jerimiah Sillman, James Showers, Bob Zoubek, Brian Foote, and Chris Hogan all were caught up in the wreck in one way or another. Fortunately all drivers were able to continue. When the race continued it was still Carlson with the #44 of Jonnie Wyman close behind. Wyman would take the lead on lap seven after going by Carlson on the high side. Just past halfway, Wyman would loose the lead to a hard charging Brian Foote. Foote would keep the lead and go on to take the win. A great battle for second would see Missouri's John O'neal edge out J.C. Wyman, Mike Meyer, and Jonnie Wyman at the line.
The Grand National division would see Dave Cook make his way to the lead on lap one from his front row starting spot. Cook would keep the lead until lap four when the #J1 of Harley Moen would make the pass for the point. Jody Krug would work his way to second from his ninth starting position when disaster almost struck on lap ten. That's when the lap car of Kortney Kosiski would make contact with Krug's right rear quarter panel. Jody was able to save it, but Kosiski's car slammed head on into the outside wall. Krug's misfortune would turn into victory as on the restart he would get by Moen and drive on for the win. Dave Doll, Dave Livingston, Moen, and Brian Kenkel rounded out the top five.
Jesse Sobbing would start on the pole and win the 15 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock "A" main event. Chuck Madden Jr would come from 11th to finish second. Brandon Richards had his best run of the season by finishing third. Jeremy Auten and Tom Myers finished fourth and fifth.
