RED CLOUD, NE (August 10)-Hometown driver Lonnie Schriner won his 7th IMCA Modified
feature at The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, Friday evening, August 10.
In the feature, Tim Watts jumped to the lead at the drop of the green, followed by
Larry Sutton and Dusty Blake. Blake took over the top spot on lap 7, but as the
field came to the crossed flags of the 20-lap race, Schriner threaded the needle to
take the lead. 'The Red Cloud Rocket' led the remaining distance for the win,
followed by Watts, Blake, Mark Zorn and Brandon Blochlinger. Schriner and Blake
won the two heat races.
The IMCA Stock Car feature had the crowd on the edge of their seat with lots of 3
and 4-wide racing. Matt Streit of Guide Rock led all 18 laps but was hounded the
entire distance by Cory Struckhoff and Josh Hudson, who finished a close second and
third. Track point leader Brett Behrends was fourth, followed by heat two winner
Jared Remus. Jason McCartney won the other heat race.
Mike Shriver led the opening laps of the IMCA Hobby Stock main event. Shriver led
the field to the halfway mark, but one lap later, tangled with Jerry Hudson in turn
one, ending the night for both drivers. Jim Buss of Blue Hill inherited the lead on
the restart and led the remaining 6 laps for his fifth Speed Bowl win this season.
Joe McDole finished second, trailed by Kyle Bond, Jared Lewis and Delbert Selvage.
Rocky Zimmerman and Shriver won the two heat races.
Joe & Jim Carter of Russell, KS, made the long haul worthwhile as they won the
Cruiser heat race, then came back with a victory in the main event. Terry Gradig &
Jeremy Teselle were second, followed by Drew Barry & Ethan Vogler.
Andy Sole of Nelson won his 7th 4-cylinder feature as he was able to hold off
Matthew Ford all 6 laps for the win. Joshua Bodenus finished third. Sole also won
the heat race.
F & F Construction of Red Cloud was the evening's race sponsor and added some prize
money for all five divisions.
Racing returns to The Speed Bowl on Friday evening, August 17, at 8:00 p.m. when
the Mod Lites & Dwarf Cars join the regular five divisions.
