Nascar Nebraska Points Leader Humphrey Returns To Saturday Night Victory Lane; Collins Gets 1st Career Win
Jim Brennan
(Greenwood, Ne., 08/11/07) It was a hot Saturday night for the NASCAR/
Whelen All American Series at I-80 Speedway with Late Model veteran
Al Humphrey picking up his 4th Crate Late Model feature of the year,
while 18 year old rookie Mollee Collins picked up her first career victory
in the Novice Crate Late Model feature.
The Crate Late Model 25 lap feature event saw Ron Tex Jr. shoot out to an
early lead from his outside front row starting position, with Kenny Edwards
taking 2nd. Jason Hobscheidt and Al Humphrey were making their way to
the front from 6th row starting positions. While Tex ran to a big early lead
yellow flags were the great equalizier allowing Hobscheidt and Humphrey.
Hobscheidt was the first to challenge Tex but his car went away on him and
Humphrey took 2nd on lap 15 and 3 laps later passed Tex for the lead.
Humphrey is leading the NASCAR State Points and is 4th in the National
Points. Hobscheidt, Joe Kosiski and Dave Livingston rounded out the top
5. Hobscheidt is leading the track points with one more Saturday to go.
Kenny Edwards celebrating his 25th birthday finished 7th.
Collins and Amanda Leonardo started on the front row of the Novice Crate
Late Model feature with Leonardo taking the early lead. Collins tucked in
behind her. Collins grabbed the lead on lap 5 of the 12 lap feature and went
on to the win over Ryan Gladwin. Rob Kosiski, Leonardo and Scott Keffer
rounded out the top 5. Point leader Lindsey Yost finished 6th. In the racing
offseason Collins is a student at Bellevue University where she is on the
soccer team.
The Pro-Stock feature saw Joe Robey take the early lead only to see Larry
Robinson Jr. shoot from his 4th position start to take the lead out of turn 2.
Robinson went on to win his first Saturday night feature going away. Jason
Cieslik finished 2nd ahead of Joe Feyen, Scotty Hartman and Andy Miller.
The B-Mod feature saw Greg Tichy grab the early lead with Jared Hoefelman
And Scott Carlson breathing down his neck. Carlson took 2nd on lap 9 when
Hoefelman spun out in turn 3. Carlson took the lead on lap 10 and went on
to his 6th feature win of the year. The race was cut 1 lap short due to the
time limit. Jim Fritz finished 2nd while Hoefelman charged his way back
to a 3rd place finish. Hoefelman is leading the points going into next weeks
season finale.
Justin (The Soulman Jr) Soule led from start to finish in the Pro-Hornet feature.
Steve England finished 2nd ahead of Pete Fink Jr., Will McConnell and
Mike Kennedy.
The Novice Hornet feature saw Kennin Colestock take the early lead. Alex Fink
took the lead on lap 4 as Colestock faded to a 7th place finish. Fink picked up
his 4th feature win of the season as he padded his point lead.
The Dwarf Cars were on hand and Scott Naggatz lead from start to finish
in this feature over Chick DeMoss, Jeff Fuhr, Terry Vantine and Ron Papstein.
