Roth, Hipnar, Sink & Richards Take I-80 Features

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 08/19/07) The NASCAR Whelen All American Series
Chase for the Championship continued Sunday night with Travis Roth, Todd
Hipnar, Josh Sink and Matt Richards picking up feature wins. There was quite
a crowd on Dodge Dealers Fan Appreciation night at the speedway.

The evening kicked off with Grand National Feature event and there were 3
Restarts before they could get a lap in. When they finally got the race
under way
Gary Leapley threaded the needle between Shawn Harker and Jacob Brown for
the early lead. Leapley would hold the lead until lap 5 when point leader
Todd
Hipnar made the pass for the lead. Hipnar would lead the rest of the way
despite a
couple of restarts that put Ron Tex Jr. right on his bumper. For Hipnar it
was his 4th
win on of the year as he stretched out his point lead a little bit. Matt
Buller finished 3rd ahead of Brad Soll and Harker.

The Pro-Modified feature saw "Iron Mike" Johnson take the early lead. Buzz
Wilson and
Matt Richards came along to challenge Johnson and it was side by side and
nose to tail
for several laps. Richards passed Wilson for 2nd on lap 13 and proceeded to
reel in Johnson. On lap 14 Richards running the high groove passed Johnson
and went on to record his first win of the year. Wilson got passed Johnson
for 2nd with Jeff Stephens and
Reece Coffee rounding out the top 5. On a restart early in the race Stephens
had a flat tire
And had to go to the pits. He came back out in 20th place and proceeded to
make his way to that 4th place finish.

Mike Mass and Brandon Wergin would battle for the early lead in the Hobby
Stock feature with Wergin in front by the end of lap 1. Wergin would hold
the lead til lap 11
when a flat tire sidelined him and Josh Sink inherited the lead. Sink said
his car was running with only 10lbs of oil pressure most of the race. After
he took the checkered flag
on his 3rd feature win his motor blew up on him. Rick Munson drove a heak of
a race in battling for the win before settling for 2nd ahead of Jesse
Sobbing, Tom Myers and
Mass.

The Late Model feature saw the Zeitner brothers Al and "Lightning Leon" on
The front row and they battled for the early lead before Leon took control.
John Nicholson passed Zeitner for the lead on lap 3 and then set sail in the
high groove of the track. Nicholson held the lead til a lap 23 restart when
Travis Roth made the pass
that earned him his 2nd feature win of the year. Nicholson held on to 2nd
ahead of Leon
Zeitner. Co-point leaders Al Humphrey and Joe Kosiski came through the pack
to
finish 4th and 6th with Al Zeitner in 5th.
