Schriner, Schoenberger win at Red Cloud

By Mike Hughes

RED CLOUD, NE (August 11)—‘The Red Cloud Rocket’ Lonnie Schriner and Jason Schoenberger won feature races in their respective divisions in racing action Friday night, August 11, at The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE.

Dwight Housh of Glen Elder, KS, led the first 8 laps of the IMCA Modified feature. However, after the third restart of the race on lap 8 for a stalled car, Schriner drove by Housh when the green flag reappeared and took the top spot. Jon Thompson moved to second by the halfway mark of the 20-lap race and hounded Schriner the second half of the race but could not make the pass and had to settle for the runner-up spot. Brandon Blochlinger finished third, followed by Tim Watts and Dusty Blake. Heat race winners were Thompson, Schriner and Housh.

Schoenberger, of Gorham, KS, led all 18 laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature. A late race caution on lap 17 when Josh Carpenter blew gave the field a chance but Schoenberger was up to the task to score his first win at the 3/8-mile oval this season. Heat two winner Geoff Jermark placed second, followed by Brett Behrends, Josh Hudson and Cory Struckhoff. Schoenberger won the other heat race.

Blue Hill’s Jamie Reiman has been the man to beat in the IMCA Hobby Stock division recently. Reiman led all 14 laps to score his third win of the season at Red Cloud, and his second in a row. Point leader Jim Buss made a challenge the last few laps but had to settle for second. Jeromy Wagner, heat two victor Jared Lewis and Mike Shriver rounded out the top five. The first heat race was won by Reiman.

Six Cruisers started the 10-lap feature but only 3 were running at the checkers in the caution plagued event. Point leaders Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe of Hastings took the lead at the halfway mark and went on for their seventh win of the year. Joe & Pat Hersh finished second, followed by heat race winners Joe & Jacob Krone.

F & F Construction and the Valley Bowl, both of Red Cloud, were the evening’s race sponsor and put up extra purse money for all four divisions.

Racing returns to The Speed Bowl Friday night, August 18, with the regular four divisions in competition. Race time is 8:00 p.m.
