Roth and Stewart Win DODGE Duals At I-80 Speedway

By Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 07/29/07) As the Nebraska-Iowa Challenger Series came to an end, Travis Roth and Jay Stewart would pick up the twin 25 lap DODGE Super Late Model feature events. Dave Cook, Marty Steinbech, and Jesse Sobbing would also visit victory lane as I-80 Speedway presented the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The first 25 lap Dodge Super Late Model feature event would see Bill Leighton Jr. jump ot to an early lead on lap one. Three yellow flags would halt the race on laps 2, 5, and 10; and doing so would bring an exciting finish. 19th place starter Travis Roth would run the bottom side of the speedway and pass Joe Kosiski, Al Humphrey, Clint Benson, and Leighton until taking the lead. Roth would enter and lap traffic and the #00 of Benson would start to reel him in. Benson would get close, but not close enough; Travis Roth would take his first "A" feature victory in his first start of the season at I-80 Speedway. Benson, Kosiski, Humphrey, and Leighton rounded out the top five.

Jason O'Brien and Jay Stewart would battle for the early lead in the second Dodge Super Late Model "A" feature. The race would come to a slow twice on lap six as Todd Bell and Dave Hanke would experience separate accidents. When the race got back underway, it was still O'Brien and Stewart battling for the lead, with Joe Kosiski, John Nicholson, and Leon Zeitner running in the top five. Trouble would strike Zeitner on lap 14 as a mechanical failure brought his car to a slow in turn four. Lap 16 would see another yellow as Bill Leighton Jr. came to a stop on the speedway, and on the restart Stewart would get around O'Brien. Jay Stewart would than go on and win the feature race. Jason Hobscheidt, Joe Kosiski, Al Humphrey, and Al Zeitner completed the top five. O'Brien would fall back and finish 9th.

With two third place finishes, Joe Kosiski wins the Nebraska-Iowa Challenger Series.

Dave Cook would come from the 5th starting position to win the 20 lap City Weekly Grand National Feature event. Dave Livingston and Dave Doll came home second and third. Todd Hipnar and Dwane Pospisil would round out the top five.

The 18 lap Certified Transmission Pro Am feature would see the #t72 of Thad Thomson jump to the lead in the opening laps. As the race moved on, Marty Steinbech and Shawn Bulin would move through way to the front entering the top and runner up positions. Lap 15 would see the final yellow of the race as the #55 of Ray Dessel spun in turn four. When the race got back underway it was still Steinbech who went on to take the feature win. Bulin finished second. Terry Cleveland would start last and finish third. Thomson was fourth and Tim Podraza was fifth.

An exciting three car battle for the lead highlighted the last lap of the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature. Jesse Sobbing, Tom Myers, and Josh True would race three wide on the final lap, and when it all came to an end it was Sobbing taking the checkers first. Josh True would edge Myers out by inches on a photo finish for second. Jimmy Nichols and Rick Munson rounded out the top five.
