ASCS North South Shootout This Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (July 17, 2007) – The ASCS Northern Plains Region and the ASCS Midwest Region will square off this weekend for a pair of events that comprise the Eighth Annual North vs. South Sprint Car Shootout.

On Friday night, the pair of Regions face off at Crawford County Speedway in Denison, IA. Then on Saturday night, it's on to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, NE.

Leading their respective Regions into the weekend double are Fargo, North Dakota's Natalie Sather and Watertown, South Dakota's Chuck Swenson. Sather continues her quest to become the first female ASCS champion, while Swenson's bid for a second consecutive Northern Plains crown continues.

With seven of eleven scheduled events of the ASCS Midwest Region in the books, the 22-year-old Sather holds a 68 point lead over Lincoln, Nebraska's Jason Danley, with defending series champion Toby Chapman, also of Lincoln, just four more points back in third.

Swenson holds down the fourth position in ASCS Midwest Region points, with Ryan Anderson of Charter Oak, IA, rounding out the current top five.

After capturing his second series win of the year this past weekend, Swenson holds a 22-point advantage over 19-year-old Lee Grosz of Harwood, ND, in the ASCS Northern Plains championship points race. Dave Glennon of Casselton, ND, holds down the third spot in ASCS Northern Plains points, with Eric Lutz of Sioux Falls, SD, and Curt Lund of Redwood Falls, MN, rounding out the current top five.

Both nights of racing action go green at 7:00 p.m.

The semi-banked, ½-mile Crawford County Speedway dirt oval is located in Denison, IA, 0.6 miles north of US 30 on US 59, then 0.6 miles northeast on SR 39. For more information, contact the track at 712-263-2033 or 712-677-9912.

The ASCS Midwest Region 2007 slate consists of eleven events at seven different tracks throughout Nebraska and the immediately surrounding area.


The ASCS Northern Plains Region 2007 slate consists of 22 events at eleven different tracks throughout Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
