The good, the bad and the ugly.

(Cue up Metallica's version of Morricone's Ecstasy of Gold here)

I'm not in the mood for a lengthy, wordy piece. So here's my overly simple editorial for the week.

Regarding the Eagle Nationals:

WDRL at Eagle

The good:

-The fantastic A feature. Just when you thought one guy had it covered, they were getting passed. A coming-for-the-checkered-turn-four pass almost always makes up for anything.

The bad:

-The multi-car qualifying format. While I like the idea, I have to ask if it was really any faster than one at a time. There seemed to be some downtime.

The ugly:

-The prima-donna attitude of the WDRL and drivers. If the track is too slimy or wet, then get your asses out there and help pack it. This isn't about you, it's about the fans. There are 1500-lb sprint cars out there making do, get out and help.

WoO at Eagle

The good:

-Seeing a unified WoO out with a respectable car count. An entertaining first half of the A feature.

-A great crowd on hand when it was needed badly, and one that seemed to be pretty patient with the track being reworked.

-A very festive atmosphere again with parties in the parking lot and afterward.

The bad:

-Aforementioned track rework. A polar opposite of the night before; wet and rough on Friday, hard and dry Saturday. However, the reworked track was pretty darn good.

The ugly:

-In the end, another rubber-down finish. Blame the track or the cars? I don't know, but I've seen the same thing too many times.

Back Row Challenge:

The good:

-WoO star Justin Henderson taking the $1000 challenge to start from the back because he "had to." Class act.

The bad:

-Seeing some of the locals bolt off for "greener" pastures, and rumors of a boycott (which I've been told emphatically are just that-rumors).

The ugly:

-A shell of the original concept - being relegated to support to the WDRL show. I can live with that since the other two episodes of the BRC didn't bring in the fans, but bill it as such next time. Maybe it's better to let it die.

Support shows (Mods, Hobbies, Sport Compacts)

The good:

-Despite a 12-lap Modified A feature, it was nice to see someone who's been on hiatus for 7 years back in the winner's circle.

-Good sport compact car count, despite the higher admission price

-A hobby stock A feature with a good deal of drama

The bad:

-The first Modified heat which went all of two laps before being called off.

The ugly:

Yet another Modified A feature front stretch pileup with another destroyed car. There's been too many modified red flags this year.
