Kosiski Doubles Up on Labor Day Weekend at I-80

By Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 09/03/06) Joe Kosiski would enter the double digit win colum as he picked up his ninth and tenth feature wins of the season at the I-80 Speedway. J.C. Wyman, Dave Doll, and Jeremy Swanson would also be repeat winners as NE-IA Supply and Sunoco Race Fuel presented the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series.

The first 25 lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Super Latemodel "A" feature event would see a series of cautions during the opening laps. When the race got underway it was Joe Kosiski who took the lead from his sixth place starting position. With Kosiski out front, the car on the move was the #28 of Billy Leighton Jr. Leighton would enter the second spot by lap nine, he would then set sail for Kosiski. "Billy The Kid" would pull next to Kosiski for the top spot just before the half way mark. Kosiski and Leighton battled side by side until Kosiski pulled away after Leighton experienced power steering failure. Kosiski stayed out front for the remaining laps as he went on to take the double checkered flags. Leighton would finish second, followed by points leader Bryant Goldsmith, Mike Wallace, and Al Zeitner. Co-NASCAR Divisional points leader Ed Kosiski would finish 17th after experiencing a form of engine failure with four laps remaining.

The second Dodge Super Latemodel "A" main saw Leon Zeitner jump to an early lead. Zeitner would stay out front during three caution periods in the first five laps. While Zeitner maintained the point, Grand Island driver Davey Nall would take his #1 to the runner up position. Lap seven would see Nall cruise pass Zeitner for the top spot. As laps started to diminish, it was Joe Kosiski who was driving through the field. With five laps to go Kosiski would sneak by Nall in lap traffic. Nall would not give up as he diced back under Kosiski with three to go. Kosiski then made the final pass for the lead one lap later as he drove by Nall on the outside. Kosiski picked up his second win of the night and tenth win of the season. Nall and Bryant Goldsmith were second and third, while Zeitner and Jerry Warner rounded out the top five.

The 18 lap Home Pride Modified feature seen a battle between father and son Carlson on lap one. Son Nick would just edge out papa Scott at the finish line to lead the first circuit. Nick would keep the point until lap five, that's when last weeks winner J.C. Wyman took the lead after starting 12th. Wyman would then never look back as he took his second win of the season, and second of the chase. Nick Carlson, Brian Foote, Matt Richards, and Randy Foote rounded out the top five.

The Grand National "A" main would see an exciting conclusion as Dave Doll, Andrew Kosiski, and Dave Livingston all battled for the top spot. Doll would be able to prevail as he took the high line around the speedway. Livingston would pass Kosiski for second, while Rick Stolley edged out Dave Cook for fourth.

The 15 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock "A" feature would have some of the best racing of the night. As Jeremy Swanson took the lead, being followed by Tom Myers and Justin Leach, the real race was for fourth. That's when 13 cars would battle for the position. There would be some bumping and banging, but all drivers would keep their cars heading in the right direction. After it was all said and done, Swanson held on for the win. Rounding out the top five were Myers, Leach, Chris Vannausdale, and Josh True. With the win, Jeremy Swanson picks up the $100 Tom & Tiff's Family Restaurant bonus.
