Wallace, Bulin, Nixon, England, Soule, Schween &Dover Earn Season Championship Feature Wins

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 9/16/06) – The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Race for the
Chase came to an end Saturday night with Mike Wallace, Shawn Bulin, Harry
Nixon, Steve England, Justin Soule, Justin Schween and Trish Dover taking
feature wins in their respective classes.

The Dodge Crate Late Model feature saw Mike Wallace take command on lap 2
From early leader Gary Joens Jr. Dave Doll came from an 11th place start to
challenge Wallace by lap 5. But try as he might Doll could not make a pass on
Wallace and had to settle for a 2nd place finish. For Wallace it was his 4th feature
win of the year tying him with Dave Livingston and Jason Hobscheidt for the most
wins. Ron Tex Jr. was 3rd while Hobscheidt edged Bill Leighton Jr. for 4th. But
Leighton earned the Chase Championship. Livingston missed the nights action as
he was with his wife at the hospital expecting a new arrival at any time.

Larry Robinson Jr. jumped to the early lead in the Certified Transmission Pro-am
Feature and looked like the car to beat until lap 6 when Rick Negrete passed him.
In a race that had 6 restarts, Negrete maintained the lead until lap 12 when Jason Cieslik
took over. Negrete took the lead back with 3 laps left when Cieslik lost a wheel.
But Shawn Bulin was set to break out of a month and a half dry spell, when he took the lead with one lap left. Negrete hung on for 2nd ahead of Dr. Nick Steier, point champion Scotty Hartman and Chad Sanders.

The Tobacco Free Nebraska Pro-Hornet feature saw Cory Hutchison take the early lead
only to lose it on lap 3 to Steve England. Lindsey Yost was on the move though and
by lap 7 she was 2nd. But she could not overtake England and had to settle for 2nd
ahead of Joe McConnell, Cory Hutchison and Brandon Wergin. With her 2nd place
finish Yost earned the Chase Championship.

The Trail Performance/Trade Center Automotive 305 Sprint Car’s were the only class
to get in their double features. The first feature saw Michael Oliver win his 2nd feature
of the year in a borrowed car. About a month ago Oliver had totaled his car at the Huskerland Nationals. Oliver swapped the lead with Trish Dover, before taking control
on lap 6. Track newcomer Justin Schween closed fast to take 2nd from Dover at the end.
In the 2nd feature Matt Stephanson took the early lead only to lose it on the back chute to Dover. Dover then built nearly a half a lap lead before Schween could get to 2nd. Schween began to reel in Dover but ran out of laps and had to settle for another 2nd.
Matthew Stelzer finished 4th in both features and earned the Championship by 2 points over Dover.

After an opening lap melee, Kyle Harpster took the early lead in the Sports Mod feature.
Harry Nixon was involved in the opening lap mixup but fought his way back to take
his 9th feature win of the year. Nixon also earned the Chase Championship over Floyd
Richards, who finished 3rd in the feature.

The Tobacco Free Nebraska Novice Hornets feature saw Justin “Soulman Jr.” Soule
take the lead at the end of lap 1 from Nathan Brown. Soule then led the rest of the way
for his second win of the year. Nate Christensen finished 2nd and was crowned the Chase Champion. At the end of this feature lightning was in the skies and with bad weather on the way the rest of the double features were scrubbed.

Next Friday night starts the 2 day Cornhusker Classic Championship featuring the WDRL Super Late Models, Grand Nationals, Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Pro-Stocks
(Pro-ams and Stock Cars) and the IMCA/CNCTA Late Models. Hot laps will be at
6:30 with racing getting under way at 7 with qualifying heats and a 25 lap WDRL feature. Saturday will have last chance races and A-Features topped by a 50 lap
WDRL feature. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled for 6 with racing getting under way at 6:30.
