Eight Drivers Win Eight Features On Championship Night at I-80

By Joey Sparano

(GREENWOOD NEB., 09/17/06) Eight different drivers would visit victory lane on the final night of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series at I-80 Speedway. Al Zeitner and Joe Kosiski would win the Dodge Super Latemodel "A" features, Dwane Pospisil and Ron Tilley grabbed the Grand National wins, Dan Mueller and Brian Foote took the checkers in the Home Pride Modifieds, and Jesse Sobbing along with Max Harder triumphed in the Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stocks. Bryant Goldsmith, Dave Doll, Brian Foote, and Jesse Sobbing would also be crowd champions on Shopko / Craftsman night.

The first 25 lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Super Late Model "A" main event would see Al Zeitner jump to an early lead on lap one. Zeitner would get constant pressure from the #56 of Chris Spieker who started fourth, but "Awesome Al" would prevail as he led all 25 laps. Spieker would take second, followed by Clint Benson, John Anderson, and Jeff Tilley.

The second Super Latemodel "A" feature would see Joe Kosiski take the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Kosiski would maintain a comfortable lead over inside row one starter Corey Zeitner, but the car on the move was the #62 of Leon Zeitner. Leon would start 14th, and on lap 21 he would be in the third position. That same lap Corey Zeitner would come to a stop on the front stretch with a mechanical failure while running in the runner up position. "Lightning Leon" would give Kosiski a charge, but he would not be able to get around the #53. Kosiski would win his eleventh feature of the year. Leon Zeitner, Jeff Tilley, Points Champion Bryant Goldsmith, and John Anderson rounded out the top five.

With the win, Joe Kosiski also took the 2006 NASCAR Division II Championship.

Grand National "A" feature number one saw Brian Scott grab the race lead early on in the event. A quarter of the way into the 20 lap race, the 49 year old rookie Dwane Pospisil drove past Scott in his #2 machine. Pospisil would lead the rest of the way in the caution free event to take his first win of the season. Scott would finish second after making a late race charge for the lead. Gary Leapley, Trevor Millikan, and Shawn Harker were the remaining top five.

The second GN "A" main would see a 40 year veteran in Ron Tilley lead every lap in route to his first feature win of the season. Dave Doll would come home second. Harley Moen took third. Ron Tex Jr. finished fourth with Shawn Harker taking fifth. Dave Doll would win the points championship after picking up a top five and two top tens in the double features.

The first Home Pride Modified feature would have Adams County Speedway regular Dan Mueller charge from the 12th starting position to win. Jesse Dennis, Mike Johnson, Jerimiah Sillman, and Justin Clark finished second through fourth. Eventual points winner Brian Foote finished seventh after spinning out in his heat, and being involved in a pile up in the "B" main.

Foote would come back from his early misfortune to win the second Home Pride Modified "A" main. Mueller would once again start 12th, but he could only get second. Mueller would be followed across the line by Randy Foote, Stacey Wilhelm, and Matt Richards.

Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock action would start with Jesse Sobbing taking a close win over Jeremy Swanson. The USA1 of Justin Leach took third, Chad Borgman came home fourth, and Rick Munson finished fifth.

The second feature had newcomer Max Harder taking the victory over a hungry Jeremy Auten. Auten would make contact with Harder more than once on the final lap, but Harder kept the car straight to take his first victory at I-80. Auten, Bob Kracher, Josh True, and Chad Borgman rounded out the top five.

Jesse Sobbing would win the points championship. Sobbing and Harder would also share the Tom & Tiff's Family Restaurant $100 bonus with each taking $50 bucks.

Next Friday and Saturday is the annual Cornhusker Classic, featuring the cars and stars of the World Dirt Racing League. A total of six classes will be in action over the two day show. For more information visit the I-80 Speedway web site, www.neracewaypark.com
