DIRT Moves HQ to NASCAR Country
Featuring national major touring series the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series, DIRT MotorSports has more than 30 years of history behind it and is the only national sanctioning body of Sprint Cars, Late Models and Modifieds. Additionally, DIRT MotorSports operates two weekly sanctioning groups, four regional series, seven race track facilities and a media production company.
With 30 million loyal dirt track racing fans around the world, the future continues to be bright as the company moves its headquarters to the heart of the auto racing industry in Concord, N.C.
"The motor sports industry calls North Carolina home so it’s only appropriate that the largest dirt track racing organization in the world makes its home there, too," said DIRT MotorSports President and CEO Tom Deery. "Governor Easley and the state of North Carolina have demonstrated the importance of economic development for the state and have made our decision on North Carolina very easy. The entire staff, as well as the Regional Partnership and the local EDCs have gone out of their way to attract leading motor sports organizations."
In 2004, a group of investors recognized the potential and acquired the World of Outlaws and the DIRT Modified touring series in addition to the UMP weekly sanctioning body. DIRT has since become one of only four publicly traded companies in the motor sports industry.
The following year, DIRT purchased seven dirt track properties and in 2006 named the highly respected Deery, who has been part of the motor sports industry all his life, as President and CEO, completing a management team with a broad knowledge of motor sports.
By consolidating a billion dollar industry, DIRT MotorSports has created several partnerships among leagues, properties and media, including powerful outlets such as ESPN and SPEED. They all are key to the more than 150 national events sanctioned by DIRT as well as the 3,000 annual events run weekly at DIRT-owned tracks or under a DIRT-owned sanctioning body.

IMCA developing Crate Model division for 2007
From Bill Martin, IMCA Public Relations 319 472-2201, x225
VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 28) – IMCA is developing a Crate Model class, set to
see its first green flag during the 2007 race season.
The new division would require use of the 602 or 604 GM Performance
crate engines and complement IMCA’s existing Late Model program.
“Our general reasoning is that tracks have expressed an interest in this
type of division, and that from a growth stand point, this class has
positives for racers and tracks,” explained IMCA Vice President of
Operations Brett Root. “The used late model market is very strong, so a
driver can buy a car, put a crate engine in and go racing for $10,000 or
less. That makes it a very affordable option for them and for tracks who
want to start this class from scratch.”
The 602 crate engine retails for approximately $3,000, the 604 for
$5,000. Both are available from GM dealerships nationwide.
“Crate engines have proven to be reliable in our SportMod division,”
Root said. “They are durable and an affordable engine option.”
More details on the Crate Model division will be announced in the Inside
IMCA newsletter in October. Next season’s Late Model rules will also be
included in that issue.
“In the initial season, we plan to have the rules and track program in
place,” said Root. “Based on the response and number of sanctions, we
will develop state, regional and national point funds.”
“We’re not trying to phase out our existing Late Model division,” he
added. “That has been, and continues to be, a very successful program.”

Cornhusker Classic opening night results
Jim Brennan & Tom Lathen
(Greenwood, Ne., 9/22/06) Opening night of the 2006 Cornhusker Classic brought 209 cars and a bulging pit area with 63 WDRL Polydome Super Late Models; 36 Grand National Late Models; 30 CNCTA/IMCA Late Models; 27 Home Pride Pro-Modifieds; 20 Pro-am/Stock Cars; and 23 Hobby Stocks.
The night started with the Grand National Heats that were won by Al Humphrey,
Jay Burdic, Kyle Berck and Jason Hobscheidt. The Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock Heats were won by Jeremy Swanson, Jesse Sobbing and Kyle Vanover. The first Pro-am Heat saw Shawn Bulin pick up the win over Dr. Nick Steier. But the 2nd heat got downright exciting as Marty Steinbach and Jason Cieslik dueled for the lead. But the 2 drivers tangled on the back stretch spinning out on the last lap and it opened the door for Joe Feyen to take the win.
The CNCTA/IMCA Late Models saw Fast Freddie Miller, Al Humphrey and Eddie Moore take heat race victories. The Modified class saw heat race wins go to J.C. Wyman, Johnny "The Jet" Saathoff and Glenn Hibbard, who made the trip from Texas for the 2nd
straight Year.
The WDRL Super Late Model heats were won by Brady Smith, Steve Kempt, Justin Fegers, point leader Denny Eckrich, Chad Simpson and Dave Eckrich. The top 8 in passing points were Matt Furman, Fegers, Chad Simpson, Kelly Boen, Brian Harris, Steve Kosiski, Dave Eckrich and Kevin Kile. The Pole Dash was won by Boen over Simpson, Furman, Fegers, Harris, Kosiski, Dave Eckrich and Kile.
Chad Simpson survived 25-laps of wild, caution flag marred racing Friday night to grab the opening-night victory at the annual Cornhusker Classic, a WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series event here at I-80 Speedway.
Simpson led from flag-to-flag to secure his first ever WDRL feature race victory and collect the $2,500 top prize in the event, which attracted 64 Late Models from nine different states.
"It's great to get that first WDRL win," commented Simpson in AMSOIL Victory Lane. "We've struggled a lot this year, but hopefully we're finally starting to getting things figured out."
"We were hoping to get a couple of these things this year," he added. "But the guys who you travel with on this series are just outstanding. On any given night there are 10 or 12 different guys who can win so you have to come with your 'A-game' and you've got to be on top of things."
Simpson, who started on the outside front row, bolted into the lead on the opening circuit, powering off the banking out of turn two to outrun pole setter Kelly Boen.
"I knew it was going to be a key getting to the front right away," noted Simpson. "There was a lot of momentum and speed right up against that cushion and I knew I had to get there.Added Simpson, "I knew I had to beat him into that first corner, because I knew he was going to get in there pretty hard. We just ran her in there hard on that first lap."
The 27-year old Mount Vernon, Iowa driver roared to a ten car length advantage over the second-place Boen by lap five, before the first of four caution flags appeared when Ed Kosiski slowed in turn three with a flat tire.
A second caution flag was waved a pair of laps later when Shelton, Nebraska's Steve Kempt coasted to a halt in turn four, following a brief tangle with Davey Nall as the duo raced wheel-to-wheel through turns one and two.
The ensuing restart spelled disaster for a number of top contenders, when Boen and Brian Harris collided in turn four as the pair wrestled for the same spot on the race track, collecting series points leader Denny Eckrich, Papillion, Nebraska's Steve Kosiski, and Cosgrove, Iowa's Dave Eckrich in the multi-car melee. Both Harris's and Denny Eckrich's car were badly damaged in the mishap, with Eckrich suffering an apparent broken wrist as his race car slammed hard into the turn four guard rail.
When racing resumed, Simpson returned to the point, with Brady Smith wheeling into the runner-up position, followed closely by Mound, Minnesota hot-shoe Justin Fegers, maha's John Anderson and southwest Iowa pilot Chris Spieker.
Caution flags again appeared on laps 11 and 13, but on each restart, Simpson was able to outmuscle the second-place running Smith to retain the advantage. Smith's car number-2 pulled to the inside of the front-runner heading into turn one on lap 17, but as the two drivers roared out of turn four, Simpson again clung to a razor-thin advantage.
Over the final half dozen circuits, Simpson's Five-Star Shop Service/MasterSbilt/Pro Power Chevrolet Monte Carlo was able to pull away from the Smith's second-place entry, allowing the eastern Iowa driver to win the race to the flag by a handful of car lengths.
"The last ten laps, I was just pushing the car for all it had because I knew I had to," said the winner. "I saw Brady (Smith) get underneath me that one time down in turn one, so I knew there was no messing around any more."
"I just pushed it for all it had and this MasterSbilt race car just worked fantastic."
Two-time WDRL champion Kyle Berck raced to a strong third place finish, with Boen, who came from the rear of the field following his lap-seven tangle, finishing fourth. Chris Simpson, who started 25th in the field finished fifth, followed by Chris Spieker, Dave Eckrich, and Trent Follmer.
NRP/I-80 Speedway is located between Omaha and Lincoln just north of I-80 exit 420 and runs the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series on Saturday and Sunday nights during their regular season; one of only two tracks in the USA to hold two NASCAR Dodge Weekly Sanctions. Season champions crowned at Red Cloud
RED CLOUD, NE (September 17)—The Speed Bowl in Red Cloud, NE, wrapped up the 2006 racing season on Sunday evening, September 17. Make-up features for the IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Modifieds were ran from a previous rainout, followed by a complete race program.
In the make-up IMCA Stock Car feature, Lance Borgman of Beatrice won a drag race with Jason McCartney of Smith Center, KS, out of turn 4 on the final lap to pick up the win. McCartney led the whole race but lost out at the wire and had to settle for second. Chad Wulf was third, followed by Josh Hudson and Matt Streit.
Beatrice’s Jordan Grabouski took the lead from Brian Calhoon on lap 14 of the 18-lap make-up IMCA Modified feature to earn his second win of the season at Red Cloud. Calhoon held on for second, followed by Lonnie Schriner, Clint Homan and Joby Hanson.
Adam Sidlo & E.J. Kothe of Hastings led all 8 laps of the Cruiser feature to pick up their 9th win of the year and the track championship. Ron & Kent Duffy finished second in the feature race, followed by Joe & Jacob Krone.
Jim Buss of Hastings took the lead at the halfway mark of the 12-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature from early leader Rocky Zimmerman of Ayr and appeared to be heading off for his 8th win of the season. But Buss broke on lap 9, giving the lead back to Zimmerman who went on to record his second feature win. Joe McDole, Jerry Hudson, Mike Shriver and Jamie Reiman rounded out the top five. Buss had a sizeable point lead though and won the points title. Heat race winners were McDole and Zimmerman.
Eric Rempel of Palmyra took the lead from Chad Wulf on lap 2 of the 14-lap IMCA Stock Car feature and drove away to the checkers. Heat one winner Cory Struckhoff finished second, followed by second heat winner Jason McCartney, Matt Streit and Ron Olson. Josh Hudson of Kensington was crowned the points champion, securing the title in the make-up feature earlier in the night.
All eyes were on Red Cloud’s Lonnie Schriner and Tim Watts of Beloit, KS, in the IMCA Modified feature as only four points separated the two at the start of the race. Schriner grabbed the lead from Lonnie Veteto on lap 4 of the 20-lap race and was not to be denied as he drove away for his 4th win of the season and the track championship. Veteto held on to the runner-up spot, followed by Dusty Blake, Jason Schoenberger and Clint Homan. Blake, Schriner and Watts won the three heat races.
Mechanics and Powder Puff races completed the final race program.
Track officials would like to thank all the track sponsors, track personnel, racers and fans for their support during the 2006 season.

Eight Drivers Win Eight Features On Championship Night at I-80
By Joey Sparano
(GREENWOOD NEB., 09/17/06) Eight different drivers would visit victory lane on the final night of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series at I-80 Speedway. Al Zeitner and Joe Kosiski would win the Dodge Super Latemodel "A" features, Dwane Pospisil and Ron Tilley grabbed the Grand National wins, Dan Mueller and Brian Foote took the checkers in the Home Pride Modifieds, and Jesse Sobbing along with Max Harder triumphed in the Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stocks. Bryant Goldsmith, Dave Doll, Brian Foote, and Jesse Sobbing would also be crowd champions on Shopko / Craftsman night.
The first 25 lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Super Late Model "A" main event would see Al Zeitner jump to an early lead on lap one. Zeitner would get constant pressure from the #56 of Chris Spieker who started fourth, but "Awesome Al" would prevail as he led all 25 laps. Spieker would take second, followed by Clint Benson, John Anderson, and Jeff Tilley.
The second Super Latemodel "A" feature would see Joe Kosiski take the early lead from his outside row one starting position. Kosiski would maintain a comfortable lead over inside row one starter Corey Zeitner, but the car on the move was the #62 of Leon Zeitner. Leon would start 14th, and on lap 21 he would be in the third position. That same lap Corey Zeitner would come to a stop on the front stretch with a mechanical failure while running in the runner up position. "Lightning Leon" would give Kosiski a charge, but he would not be able to get around the #53. Kosiski would win his eleventh feature of the year. Leon Zeitner, Jeff Tilley, Points Champion Bryant Goldsmith, and John Anderson rounded out the top five.
With the win, Joe Kosiski also took the 2006 NASCAR Division II Championship.
Grand National "A" feature number one saw Brian Scott grab the race lead early on in the event. A quarter of the way into the 20 lap race, the 49 year old rookie Dwane Pospisil drove past Scott in his #2 machine. Pospisil would lead the rest of the way in the caution free event to take his first win of the season. Scott would finish second after making a late race charge for the lead. Gary Leapley, Trevor Millikan, and Shawn Harker were the remaining top five.
The second GN "A" main would see a 40 year veteran in Ron Tilley lead every lap in route to his first feature win of the season. Dave Doll would come home second. Harley Moen took third. Ron Tex Jr. finished fourth with Shawn Harker taking fifth. Dave Doll would win the points championship after picking up a top five and two top tens in the double features.
The first Home Pride Modified feature would have Adams County Speedway regular Dan Mueller charge from the 12th starting position to win. Jesse Dennis, Mike Johnson, Jerimiah Sillman, and Justin Clark finished second through fourth. Eventual points winner Brian Foote finished seventh after spinning out in his heat, and being involved in a pile up in the "B" main.
Foote would come back from his early misfortune to win the second Home Pride Modified "A" main. Mueller would once again start 12th, but he could only get second. Mueller would be followed across the line by Randy Foote, Stacey Wilhelm, and Matt Richards.
Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock action would start with Jesse Sobbing taking a close win over Jeremy Swanson. The USA1 of Justin Leach took third, Chad Borgman came home fourth, and Rick Munson finished fifth.
The second feature had newcomer Max Harder taking the victory over a hungry Jeremy Auten. Auten would make contact with Harder more than once on the final lap, but Harder kept the car straight to take his first victory at I-80. Auten, Bob Kracher, Josh True, and Chad Borgman rounded out the top five.
Jesse Sobbing would win the points championship. Sobbing and Harder would also share the Tom & Tiff's Family Restaurant $100 bonus with each taking $50 bucks.
Next Friday and Saturday is the annual Cornhusker Classic, featuring the cars and stars of the World Dirt Racing League. A total of six classes will be in action over the two day show. For more information visit the I-80 Speedway web site, www.neracewaypark.com

Boston, Alcorn, Wulf and Rhiley take Eagle Titles
EAGLE, NE (Sept. 16, 2006) – With lightning as a backdrop all night, the four point leaders wouldn’t be denied their titles Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Two champions, Mike Boston in the sprints, and Chris Alcorn in the modfieds put their stamp on the season by winning their A feature. For Boston, it was the seventh regular season win and Alcorn picked up victory number five in his return to weekly competition at the 1/3-mile track. Justin Wulf had not won an a feature all season, but consistent finishes coupled with second place Brian Cudly’s spin that ended the Hobby Stock A feature gave him his first championship. Dan Rhiley’s fourth place finish in the tuner A allowed him to take the first championship in the new class.
In the Stereo West Auto Toys Tuner A feature, Doug Lyons took the early lead in the 10-lap contest, with Kevin Kuker and Amanda Rhiley battling for second. With six laps to go, Kuker took second place, but posed no threat to Lyons who took his second win of the season.
The Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock A saw Derick Noonan looking for his third A feature win in the last four races. Shane Hiatt gave chase with Rex Schreiner following. Schreiner suffered a flat tire and pulled out on lap three, but he would affect the race much later in the contest.
Deep in the pack, point leader Justin Wulf and runner up Brian Cudly fought for position, where only three points separated them. The yellow flew when Jim Musel hit the wall and stopped with five laps to go. Schreiner returned to the track, telling an official he was going to retaliate on a driver he tangled with earlier. Track officials brought out the black flag on the grounds that rules stated no driver may return to the track if they are more laps down than there are left, in addition to the remarks made.
Despite being stopped on the track several times, Schreiner refused to go to the pits. Meanwhile Rex’s brother, Brad in the #10 car, gave the backstretch official an obscene gesture and also was disqualified. Like his brother, he refused to leave the track after being stopped. Meanwhile, raindrops came and went at the track, and officials were concerned about completing the other two A features in the program.
Noonan led the field at the green flag, but with three laps left Cudly’s chances of taking the title ended when he spun in turn one. Track officials, citing the weather called the race with Noonan as the victor over Shane Hiatt, Ron Novak, and Rob Brown.
The SoBe No Fear IMCA Modified Championship had been decided when points runner-up Mike Meyer failed to qualify for the A feature. With the title in hand, many expected Chris Alcorn to take it easy. But Alcorn instead had nothing to lose and he roared through the field to challenge Stacey Wilhelm and leader Dave Jewett, Jr. with 12 laps down in the 20-lap race. Alcorn passed Jewett on the following lap to pull alongside Wilhelm with seven laps to go. Wilhelm bobbled going into turn one to allow Alcorn an opportunity to pass. Making the most of what was given, Alcorn took the lead coming out of turn four and despite heavy traffic in the closing laps, held on for the win. Wilhelm, Jewett, and Doug Deterding followed across the line.
Lightning grew more frequent, and started the countdown of the Budweiser Sprint A feature. Boston, held a 17 point lead going into the race and while the championship was in easy reach, he couldn’t afford a major mistake. The 2000 champ quickly got himself out of dangerous early race traffic and quickly made it to the lead pack. With six laps down Tige Jensen spun in turn two, with Josh Riggins collecting the stalled car and rolling over to bring out the red flag.
Racing got back underway quickly as Boston challenged Jay Jordan and leader Rodney Droud. With six laps down, Boston made the move past Jordan going into turn one and took the lead from Droud coming out of turn four.
Mike Chadd spun in turn three with 11 laps down, two short of the needed 13 to call the race official. Time was running out as the tell-tale rain-cooled cold air gust displaced the warm breeze that prevailed all night. The green flew again with Boston leading. On lap fourteen the rain began to come down, and officials called the race with Boston the winner, followed by Droud and Jack Dover.
The next race for Eagle Raceway is the two-day Nebraska Cup featuring IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Tuners on Sept. 29 and 30.

Wallace, Bulin, Nixon, England, Soule, Schween &Dover Earn Season Championship Feature Wins
Jim Brennan
(Greenwood, Ne., 9/16/06) – The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Race for the
Chase came to an end Saturday night with Mike Wallace, Shawn Bulin, Harry
Nixon, Steve England, Justin Soule, Justin Schween and Trish Dover taking
feature wins in their respective classes.
The Dodge Crate Late Model feature saw Mike Wallace take command on lap 2
From early leader Gary Joens Jr. Dave Doll came from an 11th place start to
challenge Wallace by lap 5. But try as he might Doll could not make a pass on
Wallace and had to settle for a 2nd place finish. For Wallace it was his 4th feature
win of the year tying him with Dave Livingston and Jason Hobscheidt for the most
wins. Ron Tex Jr. was 3rd while Hobscheidt edged Bill Leighton Jr. for 4th. But
Leighton earned the Chase Championship.
he was with his wife at the hospital expecting a new arrival at any time.
Larry Robinson Jr. jumped to the early lead in the Certified Transmission Pro-am
Feature and looked like the car to beat until lap 6 when Rick Negrete passed him.
In a race that had 6 restarts, Negrete maintained the lead until lap 12 when Jason Cieslik
took over. Negrete took the lead back with 3 laps left when Cieslik lost a wheel.
But Shawn Bulin was set to break out of a month and a half dry spell, when he took the lead with one lap left. Negrete hung on for 2nd ahead of Dr. Nick Steier, point champion Scotty Hartman and Chad Sanders.
The Tobacco Free Nebraska Pro-Hornet feature saw Cory Hutchison take the early lead
only to lose it on lap 3 to Steve England. Lindsey Yost was on the move though and
by lap 7 she was 2nd. But she could not overtake
ahead of Joe McConnell, Cory Hutchison and Brandon Wergin. With her 2nd place
finish Yost earned the Chase Championship.
The Trail Performance/Trade Center Automotive 305 Sprint Car’s were the only class
to get in their double features. The first feature saw Michael Oliver win his 2nd feature
of the year in a borrowed car. About a month ago Oliver had totaled his car at the Huskerland Nationals. Oliver swapped the lead with Trish Dover, before taking control
on lap 6. Track newcomer Justin Schween closed fast to take 2nd from
In the 2nd feature Matt Stephanson took the early lead only to lose it on the back chute to
Matthew Stelzer finished 4th in both features and earned the Championship by 2 points over
After an opening lap melee, Kyle Harpster took the early lead in the Sports Mod feature.
Harry Nixon was involved in the opening lap mixup but fought his way back to take
his 9th feature win of the year. Nixon also earned the Chase Championship over Floyd
Richards, who finished 3rd in the feature.
The Tobacco Free Nebraska Novice Hornets feature saw Justin “Soulman Jr.” Soule
take the lead at the end of lap 1 from Nathan Brown. Soule then led the rest of the way
for his second win of the year. Nate Christensen finished 2nd and was crowned the Chase Champion. At the end of this feature lightning was in the skies and with bad weather on the way the rest of the double features were scrubbed.
Next Friday night starts the 2 day Cornhusker Classic Championship featuring the WDRL Super Late Models, Grand Nationals, Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Pro-Stocks
(Pro-ams and Stock Cars) and the IMCA/CNCTA Late Models. Hot laps will be at

Schatz takes 1/3 Mile Nationals
EAGLE — Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D., took advantage of two late race breaks to win the 40-lap 1/3 Mile Nationals Friday night at Eagle Raceway.
Working the low groove, Schatz worked his way through traffic to take the lead after a lap-36 restart. Just one week earlier, Schatz suffered burns to his face and neck at a race in Chico, Calif.
Friday’s win was his 13th of the season and was the furthest back any driver has come to win an Outlaws A feature this season.
Brooke Tatnell took the early lead from the pole position with Chad Blonde and Craig Dollansky applying pressure early. Brian Brown, Daryn Pittman and Terry McCarl fought for fifth place on the dusty surface.
The red flag flew on lap 13 as Wayne Johnson tipped over in turn four.
With the lapped car of Lincoln’s Billy Alley sandwiched between first and second, Tatnell again got the jump on the field and pulled out to a straightaway lead.
Schatz had pulled up to sixth place by lap 15 and entered the chase for fifth place.
Still working what was left of the bottom groove, Schatz was able to muscle under the traffic, passed third-place Blonde and began to close in on second-place Dollansky.
Unlike the other drivers, Schatz still found traction in the low groove and blew past Dollansky with 11 laps remaining.
With seven laps to go, cones marking the start-finish line were hit and thrown onto the track, bringing out the yellow flag. Tatnell was on point for the restart with the lapped cars of Dusty Zomer and Seth Brahmer between himself and Schatz.
When the green flew, Schatz sped past Brahmer. With four laps remaining, Schatz passed Zomer and got his biggest break of the night when Joey Saldana, son of Lincoln racing legend Joe Saldana, rolled in turn four after tangling with Jason Martin to bring out the red flag.
With no lapped traffic as a cushion, Schatz pulled alongside Tatnell with three laps left. Tatnell moved down to block Schatz in turn one, but went back up top for the next set of turns.
On the next lap, Tatnell got up into the loose dirt above the cushion, and Schatz powered underneath coming out of turn two. Tatnell pulled alongside to take the white flag, but Schatz had the fast line and pulled away for the win.
“Anyone could have driven the car tonight, I was just lucky to be the one behind the wheel,” Schatz said.
Chris Alcorn won the modified A feature ahead of Jordan Grabouski, Scott Bivens, Doug Deterding and Rik Gropp.
World of Outlaws A feature results: 1. Donny Schatz; 2. Brooke Tatnell; 3. Craig Dollansky; 4. Daryn Pittman; 5. Chad Blonde; 6. Randy Hannagan; 7. Justin Henderson; 8. Terry McCarl; 9. Jac Haudenschild; 10. Brian Brown.

URSS "305" Sprint Car Driving Seminar
From www.unitedrebelsprintseries.com
Are you an Experienced Racer looking to join the fastest growing Sprint Car
Series in the Mid West? Are you an avid race fan and wondered what it would
be like to experience the thrill of pitching one of these fire-breathing
rockets into the corner? The United Rebel Sprint Series is offering you an
opportunity to see, hear, smell and feel the excitement of driving an actual
URSS Series Sprint Car in a safe and controlled learning environment.
The URSS is offering a full one-day Driving Seminar at the Rolling Plains
Motor Speedway in Hays, Kansas on Saturday, October 14th, 2006 with the
legendary Kansas Tornado Jon Johnson as the featured instructor. This one
day program will give drivers the experience with classroom training to help
you understand the technology of a Sprint Car and actual track time in a
URSS 305 Sprint Car with one on one driving instructions during two on track
sessions at RPM Speedway. Four of the best URSS 305 Sprint Cars, including
Johnsons championship winning car, will be on hand to provide the attendees
the opportunity to experience the thrill of these awesome racecars.
The Driving Seminar will consist of a morning session in a classroom setting
where the participants will be given instruction on the basics of Sprint Car
racing. Lessons on driver safety, starting procedures, basic car setup and
weekly maintenance will be thoroughly explained. Classroom instruction will
also include lessons in driving techniques to learn how to power the car
through the corners just like the Pros. This classroom workshop will give
you the basic knowledge needed to become more familiar with these amazing
machines and get you ready for the on track part of the program.
After a short break for lunch, the participants will take to the track
individually with each driver taking part in the first of two driving
sessions on the race prepared RPM Speedway. Drivers will take their first
5-lap session around the banked clay oval with URSS Officials overseeing
your driving experience and Series Instructors evaluating your driving
performance. Each driver will then get a one on one evaluation of their
session and will be given tips and pointers and answers to any questions to
improve upon their driving skills. After the evaluations, all of the
participants will hit the 3/8s mile oval for another individual 10-lap
driving session. Drivers will once again be given assessments on their
driving skills and be offered advice and tips to further improve what they
have learned.
The cost for this URSS 305 Sprint Car Seminar is $250.00 per person and will
be limited to the first 50 Drivers to register. Drivers are asked to bring
their own fire-suit, helmets and other related safety equipment or borrow a
set from a fellow racer. This is an excellent opportunity and the experience
of a lifetime for anyone just wanting to feel the thrill of driving a full
size sprint car. It will also prove extremely valuable to all interested
racers in the area to have their questions answered about the series and to
get actual seat time in a URSS Sprint Car before deciding to move up to this
affordable 305 Sprint Car class. For more information anyone interested in
taking part in this opportunity can call Rick Salem at 785-475-7010 or by

What's up
Got a few more things coming up on the site after I took a little break last
week...
1. Some Eagle 8-26 photos. Yeah, a couple weeks late but maybe it will stir
up some memories of the last race. Seems so long ago!
2. A Pace Lap column. Actually this time it will be a long list of thoughts
and observations from recently, 2006 and 2007 in general.

Sprint Cars and Hot Rods at Eagle Raceway
LINCOLN, NE - For the last 30 years the Lincoln Area Street Rods have been wowing fans with their unique rides, the same thing the World of Outlaws Sprint Series does every time they hit the track.
On Friday the Lincoln Area Street Rods and the Rebels Car Club will warm the crowd up for the 1/3-Mile Short Track Nationals at Eagle Raceway, by putting on a car show, complete with prizes. With over 45 current members, 20-25 hot rods are expected to be at Eagle Raceway on Friday at 5 p.m. and will be on display for the entire evening.
Roger Nunn, the event coordinator is excited, since this will be the first show the club has held at the track in over 20 years. He knows that most of the members of the Lincoln Area Street Rods and Rebels Car Club are race fans, and they will be thrilled to share the same grounds with drivers like Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky, Daryn Pittman, and Jac Haudenschild, and the rest of the World of Outlaws Sprint Series drivers.
“We did a show at Eagle (Raceway) a number of years ago,” said Nunn. “I think it was about 1984, and we had a bunch of cars go out there. We parked on the southeast corner of the grandstand. We backed into a corner by the fence, and we had about 25 cars on-hand.”
The club normally holds 8-10 events each year, with members also taking part in other hot rod shows around the country. After the event at Eagle on Friday, the Lincoln Area Street Rods will stay close to their home base, with a show at the Villages Courtyard and Gardens Hotel, which is located in the geographic center of the capital city of the Cornhusker state on September 29 and 30.
Nunn was not alone in coordinating the event at Eagle Raceway. He for years has done business with Speedway Motors based in Lincoln, as they are an integral part of the hot rod community. The company also is heavily involved in sprint car racing, so it seemed like a perfect fit to have the hot rod show during the World of Outlaws Sprint Series event at the track.
“Greg at Speedway Motors and I do a lot together,” said Nunn. “I do a lot with Speedway and he knew I was involved with the car club and he asked me if I would be interested in doing something. I said, yeah that would be a kick.”
Like the members of the Lincoln Area Street Rods and Rebels Car club, Nunn is a big sprint car fan, but due to work and other commitments, he does not get out to the track very often.
“With my family and the car show stuff that I do, I have not seen a sprint car race in years,” said Nunn. “I’m pretty excited about it. Hopefully the weather is pretty good and it will work out pretty well.”
The fans will be the judges of the cars. During intermission of the 1/3-mile Short Track Nationals, they will vote on the top-three hot rods, and those participants will receive prizes and trophies.
World of Outlaws drives Joey Saldana, “Neon” Dion Hindi, “The Hitman” Jason Martin, and Justin Henderson will be signing autographs for the fans before they take to the track.
Also “The Hotties of Dirt Track Racing” will be on hand as trophy girls and to pose for pictures with the fans.
All those entering the car show with their hot rod can get a 2 for one general admission ticket to the race. The cost is just $25, with kids 12 and under only $10. Fans can go by area Lincoln O’Reilly Auto Parts stores and save $5 off reserved or general admission tickets.
Seeking a Sweep: Daryn Pittman Looks to Remain Unbeaten in Two States
LINCOLN, NE (Sep. 12, 2006) - A win is a win. That is how most drivers feel, but some wins stick out more than others in their minds. That was exactly the case for Daryn Pittman last weekend, as he picked the victory in the 53rd Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions. He picked up an event record $50,000 payday, as he bested a field of over 100 cars on the always grueling quarter-mile high-banked Silver Dollar Speedway.
Pittman aboard the Titan Garages & Carports Maxim looks to parlay that momentum into this weekend’s doubleheader of racing. The action kicks off on Friday with a return trip to Eagle (Neb.) Raceway for the 1/3-mile Short Track Nationals. Then on Saturday, the World of Outlaws Sprint Series heads north to Jackson (Minn.) Speedway.
Pittman has been looking forward to returning to Eagle Raceway since the beginning of June when he swept the Eagle Nationals. In both of those nights of racing, he won the dash to earn the pole position. He also was victorious last year at Jackson Speedway.
“I have never really been all that great there (at Eagle Raceway) until this spring,” said Pittman. “We’ve been on a roll and had some good cars. Luck was on our side the first night and we got locked in. We’re just looking to go back pick up another win. We’re definitely looking forward to it. It’s an awesome race track, and I love to be in the Lincoln area. Hopefully we can make it three in a row at Lincoln.”
Twice this season, Pittman has swept a weekend of racing. In addition to the double-dip at Eagle, he broke out the broom at Princeton (Minn.) Speedway at the end of July. Speedway at the end of July. Those were both two-day events, this weekend the native of Owasso, Oklahoma will have another challenge, as he looks to sweep two single-day events on successive nights.
“It’s extremely tough to sweep a weekend,” he said. “Donny (Schatz) was leading the first night (at Eagle) and made a rare mistake and we got by him and that doesn’t happen very often. Then the second night it rubbered up and we were lucky to stay in the lead. Our guys put the right tires on. There are so many things that go into it. It’s not as easy as starting on the pole and finishing up there, even though it may look that way. Our crew put us in the right position and gave us a car to go out there and win the race two days in a row.”
While Eagle is only a few hours from his native state of Oklahoma, Pittman does not consider it a home track. Though he greatly enjoys going to the high-banked 1/3-mile, as well as the sprawling ½-mile at Jackson Speedway.
“Eagle has always been one of my favorite race tracks,” said Pittman. “We won last year at Jackson as well so we are looking forward to going back there too. Maybe we can sweep a weekend at two different tracks.”

LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 11, 2006) - 1983 Indianapolis 500 winner Tom Sneva will be the guest speaker at the 2006 Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Oct. 13. LINCOLN, Neb. (September 2006) - Toby Chapman and the Rocket Motorspots team put the finishing touches on the 2006 ASCS Midwest Region championship Friday night at US 36 Raceway in Osbourn, MO. Kosiski Doubles Up on Labor Day Weekend at I-80
(GREENWOOD NEB., 09/03/06) Joe Kosiski would enter the double digit win colum as he picked up his ninth and tenth feature wins of the season at the I-80 Speedway. J.C. Wyman, Dave Doll, and Jeremy Swanson would also be repeat winners as NE-IA Supply and Sunoco Race Fuel presented the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series.
The first 25 lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series Super Latemodel "A" feature event would see a series of cautions during the opening laps. When the race got underway it was Joe Kosiski who took the lead from his sixth place starting position. With Kosiski out front, the car on the move was the #28 of Billy Leighton Jr. Leighton would enter the second spot by lap nine, he would then set sail for Kosiski. "Billy The Kid" would pull next to Kosiski for the top spot just before the half way mark. Kosiski and Leighton battled side by side until Kosiski pulled away after Leighton experienced power steering failure. Kosiski stayed out front for the remaining laps as he went on to take the double checkered flags. Leighton would finish second, followed by points leader Bryant Goldsmith, Mike Wallace, and Al Zeitner. Co-NASCAR Divisional points leader Ed Kosiski would finish 17th after experiencing a form of engine failure with four laps remaining.
The second Dodge Super Latemodel "A" main saw Leon Zeitner jump to an early lead. Zeitner would stay out front during three caution periods in the first five laps. While Zeitner maintained the point, Grand Island driver Davey Nall would take his #1 to the runner up position. Lap seven would see Nall cruise pass Zeitner for the top spot. As laps started to diminish, it was Joe Kosiski who was driving through the field. With five laps to go Kosiski would sneak by Nall in lap traffic. Nall would not give up as he diced back under Kosiski with three to go. Kosiski then made the final pass for the lead one lap later as he drove by Nall on the outside. Kosiski picked up his second win of the night and tenth win of the season. Nall and Bryant Goldsmith were second and third, while Zeitner and Jerry Warner rounded out the top five.
The 18 lap Home Pride Modified feature seen a battle between father and son Carlson on lap one. Son Nick would just edge out papa Scott at the finish line to lead the first circuit. Nick would keep the point until lap five, that's when last weeks winner J.C. Wyman took the lead after starting 12th. Wyman would then never look back as he took his second win of the season, and second of the chase. Nick Carlson, Brian Foote, Matt Richards, and Randy Foote rounded out the top five.
The Grand National "A" main would see an exciting conclusion as Dave Doll, Andrew Kosiski, and Dave Livingston all battled for the top spot. Doll would be able to prevail as he took the high line around the speedway. Livingston would pass Kosiski for second, while Rick Stolley edged out Dave Cook for fourth.
The 15 lap Stereo West Auto Toys Hobby Stock "A" feature would have some of the best racing of the night. As Jeremy Swanson took the lead, being followed by Tom Myers and Justin Leach, the real race was for fourth. That's when 13 cars would battle for the position. There would be some bumping and banging, but all drivers would keep their cars heading in the right direction. After it was all said and done, Swanson held on for the win. Rounding out the top five were Myers, Leach, Chris Vannausdale, and Josh True. With the win, Jeremy Swanson picks up the $100 Tom & Tiff's Family Restaurant bonus.
