From Winged Outlaw Warriors
California, MO(August 31)-by Chad Buford
On a night when many regulars of the Winged Outlaw Warriors had trouble, Stuart Snyder picked up his first career win with the group. Randy Martin jumped into the lead on the start followed by Chuck Swenson and Snyder. For the first five laps, the top three would remain the same, but the driver to watch was Jesse Hockett, who had moved to sixth after starting sixteenth.
With one more lap in the books, it was Martin, Swenson, Snyder, Tyler Blank, Josh Fisher, and Hockett. On lap seven, second place Swenson spun in turn two and Fisher collided with him and turned over. The accident was a big blow to Fisher, who is in the thick of the points championship chase. Both drivers would be finished for the evening. On the restart, Martin jumped into the lead again followed by Snyder, Blank, and Hockett. Two laps later, Hockett was able to move by Blank and continued his impressive charge to the front.
The top four would remain this way as Martin hit heavy traffic on lap thirteen. This allowed Snyder and Hockett to move in on Martin’s bumper. On lap fourteen, Snyder would get by Martin in turn three, but Martin would regain the lead in turn four. Martin would continue to lead with Snyder and Hockett battling for second just behind.
On lap seventeen, Snyder drove extremely hard into turn three and hit Martin spinning both drivers. As Martin was hit by fourth place Blank, Snyder went over the bank and was able to keep his car from stalling as he drove back onto the track. Because he had never officially stopped, Snyder was moved back to the front of the field as the hometown crowd voiced its disapproval.
Snyder would hold off Hockett over the final three laps in his Don Williams and Shirley Beers owned mount. Hockett would gain fourteen spots to earn the KSE Hard Charger in the Hockett Motorsports Frankenstein. Lanny Carpenter would finish a season best third followed by Brad Graham. Martin would charge back to fifth followed by Mallory Armfield. Steve Mahannah would run seventh with Frank Brown, Andy Korte, and Jeff Wingate rounding out the top ten.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors will now take part in the Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Nationals in Eldon, MO along with the Sprint Invaders on September 1st and 2nd.
