I-80 Cornhusker Classic Night 2

Jim Brennan

(Greenwood, Ne., 09/23/07) 50 new cars pushed the 2 day total to over 280
cars for the Cornhusker Classic weekend. Feature winners on night 2 included
Chris Spieker, Kyle Berck, Marty Steinbach, Scott Carlson, Kortney Kosiski,
Kennin Colestock, Pete Fink Jr.,
Dan "The Man" Mueller and Tom Myers.

The Modified 30 lap feature saw Mueller wrestle the early lead away from
Mark Wyman. Clint Homan was the first to challenge Mueller, but ended up
giving way to Robert Brinkman on lap 9. Brinkman could not overtake Mueller
and ended up the 2nd place car. Johnny Saathoff and Reece Coffee had to use
the last chance races to get in the feature and both had great runs. After
starting in the 9th row Reece finished third and Saathoff finished 4th ahead
of Greg Metz.

In the IMCA/USRA/I-80 Late Model feature Kyle Berck started on the outside
front row and charged to the lead at the drop of the green flag. Chris
Spieker started 6th and moved into 2nd on lap 2. From there it was Berck and
Spieker stretching their advantage over the rest of the field. Lapped cars
were Berck's undoing as Spieker chased him down and took the lead on the
white flag lap. At the finish it was Spieker, Berck, Al Humphrey, Leon
Zeitner and Jason O'Brein as the top 5. Jay Stewart headed the rest of the
top 10.

The Grand National feature saw Shawn Harker jump to the early lead with Kyle
Berck, driving Ron Dake's #33z, moving to 2nd by the end of lap 1. Berck
took the lead on lap 7 after a side by side battle with Harker. Ron Tex
closed fast to take 2nd away from Harker.
Jason Hobscheidt, Dave Livingston and Al Humphrey rounded out the top 6.

The Hobby Stock feature had a lot of action to it with Rick Munson, Josh
True, Robert Tippery, Kyle Vanover and Tom Myers battling for the early
lead. Munson grabbed the lead on lap 2. On lap 3 Max Harder came into the
picture and took the lead. Josh Sink took the lead on lap 11 and went on to
take the checkered flag first. But post race inspection found him having an
over compressed motor and he was disqualified giving the win to Tom Myers.
Bill Woehler took 2nd after the dq.

In the Pro-Am/Pro-Stock feature Shawn Bulin and Marty Steinbach battled for
the early lead. But Steinbach took control when Bulin spun on the back
chute. Dave Plowman inherited 2nd at this point and did his best to run down
Steinbach. But a fast closing Tim Podraza took 2nd on lap 13. Steinbach
went on to win with Podraza, Rick Negrete, Joe Feyen and Thad Thomson
rounding out the top 5. Negrete was the hard charger though moving up from
an 8th row start.

Darin Hoegren took the early lead in the Novice Hornet feature. But Kenin
Colestock was on the move and made a high side pass on Hoegren on lap 3. The
pass was so high that Colestock even bumped the wall. Colestock went on to
take the victory over Hoegren, Andrew Cuva, Barry Kinnersly and Jake Sells.

The Pro Hornet feature saw Joe Copeland jump to the early lead. But by the
end of lap 1 Jason Miller had the lead. Miller went on to record the win
over Pete Fink Jr., Alex Fink, Mike Kennedy and Perry Soule. But Miller
refused a claim and was disqualified giving the win to Pete Fink Jr.

The Novice Crate Late Model feature was a barnburner. Micah Brown took the
early lead and held it til there were 3 laps left. Jase Kaser took over at
that point. But on the last lap Kaser tangled with Ryan Gladwin and Kortney
Kosiski snuck through the hole to pick up the win, her 2nd of the year. Mike
Gillespie finished 2nd ahead of Brown, Scott Keffer amd Mollee Collins.

Floyd Richards took the early lead in the B-Modified feature only to lose it
on the back stretch to Anthony Attanasio. Chad Dills took the lead on lap 3.
But it was short lived as Scott Carlson took the lead on lap 4. The race
ended due to the time limit for restarts with Carlson taking the win over
Dills, Richards, Jim Hendricks and Hank Dewild.
