Dover Dominates Eagle ASCS North South Shootout; Smith, Wulf, Noonan also Take Checkers

The ASCS North/South Sprint Showdown and Man Cave Night, presented by Jack
Daniel's were held at "America's Home Track" Eagle Raceway Saturday. A sunny
hot July afternoon gave way to cooler temperatures as the evening wore on.
Although only 4 of the ASCS Northern Plains Region racers participated, two
other visitors showed up to make sure that the heat on the track never
diminished. Jack Dover and Robby Wolfgang made the trip to Eagle for the
show; and what a show it was!! Throughout the heats and into the features
there was three and four wide racing. There were 3 major incidents in the
heats also.

In the Budweiser Championship/ASCS 360 Sprint Heat #2 Mikey Gabelhouse's 7G
slid up the track going into turn one and made contact with ASCS Northern
Region points leader Lee Grosz in the 4J, sending him flipping up and over
the turn 2 wall and coming to a rest on his wheels. After being pushed to
the work area and having his sprinter checked over he rejoined the race.

In the Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified 4th heat, Chad Anderson ran his
#8C head-on into the backstretch wall. Anderson's car was damaged too
severely to be repaired and his night was over.

In the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stock 2nd heat, Steve Shepard made hard
contact with the front stretch wall in his #20T. Shepard would make repairs
to his racer and come back out for his B Feature.

The first A Feature was for the Valentino's IMCA Hobby Stocks. Mike Hansen
brought his #94 to the lead with Nick Beckman's 22 and Shane Hiatt's 21H
behind him. Last week's Feature winner, Jerry Keaton moved into third on lap
#3. On the next lap, Rob Brown's #42 suffered a flat tire, bringing out the
yellow flag. On the restart, Derick Noonan saw the engine expire in his #21
bringing the yellow out yet again. On lap 5, Keaton advanced around Beckman
for 2nd, but was repassed by the 22 on lap 8. Shortly after that Keaton spun
to the infield, dropping him to the rear of the field. This allowed Justin
Wulf to move his #86 into the third position. At that time it was Hansen,
Beckman and Wulf in the top three spots. Wulf passed Beckman with 3 laps to
go and then took the lead from Hansen on the next circuit. At the finish it
was Wulf, Hansen and Beckman.

"I'm really happy with the win after starting 10th" Wulf said. "The track
was really good tonight. I liked it because I could move all over and run
anywhere" he continued. "This was our third A Main in a row, and we're going
for #4 tomorrow night. I need to thank a lot of people, starting with my
crew. Tim & Todd Wulf, Dave Volnek, Brian Crone and Joe Speice are the ones
who make this car run so great every night" he finished. Justin's sponsors

The Monster Energy Drink IMCA Modified A Main was next. Tracy Harr's #21T
came around to the start-finish line first, followed by George Haney's 12X
and the #95 of Dylan Smith. Ed "Doc" Raines got his 11AA around Smith on the
second lap, the red flag flew on lap #4 when Aaron Pella flipped his #3A
after heavy contact with the cushion. On the 2nd lap of the restarted race,
Smith got back around Raines to regain third, and then moved past Haney on
the following lap. Unfortunately for Smith the yellow flag was thrown for
Brian Cudly who spun in turns 1 and 2. On the restart, Smith wasted no time
as he moved into the lead in 1 turn. He was followed into 2nd position by
Chris Alcorn's #3, Tracy Harr and George Haney. On the next lap, Haney
retook the third spot from Harr. With just 10 laps remaining, Alcorn got
past Smith when Smith pushed up the track. From there to the finish it was a
terrific battle between Alcorn and Smith. Running side by side the rest of
the way, the two took turns leading the race. Alcorn appeared to be headed
back to victory lane until he went low in turn three on the last lap and
Smith took advantage of Alcorn being slowed by lapped traffic to pass him
for good on the cushion. At the finish it was Smith, Alcorn, Chevy Hadan's
#4 and the V45 of Rik Gropp.

"It was so awesome running door to door with Chris the last 10 laps. After I
pushed up and he got by me I knew I had to really work hard. I always know
that Chris will race me clean and I don't need to worry at all. But when I
saw Chris go low on the last couple of turns, I had to go where he wasn't.
So, I took the high side and he got trapped" Dylan stated. "I need to give a
big thanks to Mike and Lisa Goecke, my mom and dad, Grandma and Grandpa,
Damion and Joni Smith, Danielle and Avery and of course "Diesel". Dylan's

It was then time for the Auto Trans Matic IMCA Sport Compacts to run their A
Feature. Jeremy Noonan took the early lead in his #33 with Larry Cronin's #5
in second and the 55 of Garrett Rech in third. On the next lap, Jake Sells
took his #21 around Rech. Cronin's car began to smoke on the next lap, and
he eventually retired shortly thereafter; bringing out the yellow. At that
time the running order was Noonan, Rech, the 45 of Jack Prall IV and the #2
of Dan Rhiley. On the restart and for the next several laps Sells, Rhiley
and Prall IV were racing three wide around the high banks. With 6 laps to
go, Rhiley moved into 2nd with Prall IV following him to take over third. A
caution for debris brought out another yellow flag. During the lineup
procedure, Rhiley was set back 2 spots for rough driving. That made the
order Noonan, Prall IV, the #62 of Justin Busboom and Rhiley. Rhiley managed
to get around Busboom with 4 laps left, but could advance no further. At the
checkers it was Noonan, Prall IV, Rhiley and Busboom.

"Our old car had gotten pretty beat up, so we figured it was time to bring
out the new one finally. But, new car or not, we still had problems. The
belt came off in our qualifier and luckily we noticed it as we were heading
for the A Feature" Jeremy said. "It was great to be able to win for the
second time tonight, but that's thanks to the really fast track" he
continued. "I need to thanks my parents, my brother, Todd Sanford, all of
Section C and my girlfriend Taylor Sanford" he finished. Jeremy's sponsors

The finale for the evening was the Budweiser Championship/ASCS 360 Sprint A
Main. On the initial start Frank Galusha jumped the cushion in turn #1 and
made contact with the wall in turn #2. Galusha was uninjured but unable to
continue. On the restart Gene Acklund took his #14G to the front followed by
the 71 of Tige Jensen, Jeff Griffis in the #3 and the 76 of Jay Russell.
Griffis wasted no time, passing Jensen on the low side on the second lap.
That same lap Jeff Grosz took over fourth from Russell. 5 laps later Grosz
also passed Jensen and moved into second when Griffis bobbled in turn #4. He
then moved around Acklund the next lap. Jack Dover was the racer on the move
however. Dover had advanced to the third position by lap #9 after he
transferred from the B Feature and starting 19th. Dover took over second
position with 13 to go and 4 laps later moved under Grosz to take the point.
Jay Russell brought out a yellow flag when he spun in turn #4. This gave
Dover the clean track that he needed. Jason Danley took advantage of the
stoppage however, overtaking Acklund on the restart to move into third. It
was clear sailing for Dover as he once again emerged victorious. Grosz held
on for second and Danley came home third.

"What a night" Dover said. "We got here late, and then we had to rush to get
the car ready for our heat. We made it, but blew up the motor that we had
just gotten back this morning. So, we put in an old bullet that's run 28
shows already; but it did the job and got us the win" he continued. "This is
4 straight wins for us now, and I owe it to my mom and dad and the best crew
anywhere. Randy, Michael, Paul and Stu Snyder did a great job tonight
getting us back out there and setting the car up for the win". Dover's

entertain everyone. Front gate admission for Adults and Youth 6-13 years old
is only $5. Children 5 & under Free. Front gate opens at 5:30pm with racing
at 7:00pm.

Then next Sunday, August 27th is the Kornhusker Midget Klassic with the
AIMS/SMRS/RMMRA and Circle Track Motorcycle racing. All presented by The
Brew. Hot laps will be at 4:00 with racing at 5:00.
