American Independent Midget Series
Arvada, CO. - Jaguar Downhole Tools of Conroe, Texas, who provides services for the oil field industry, has agreed to renew their sponsorship of the 5th Annual Midget Klassic race and the Ron Hughes JR and SR Memorial Race.
Jaguar Downhole Tools, which was formed in 2003, manufactures performance straight hole drilling motors for the oil and gas industry. Their headquarters are in Conroe, Texas, with offices in Midland and Palestine Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Ron Hughes SR., one of the founders and co-owners of Jaguar, passed away in October of 2007, less than 90 days after competing in the 4th Annual Midget Klassic at Dodge City, KS.
Ron Hughes JR., who was a many time Texas Midget Champion, and won some 100 Feature events, was killed in a Midget racing crash at Devils Bowl Speedway in 1991.
Aaron Kirk, Hughes SR’s stepson and driver of the familiar #45 Midget and an officer of Jaguar, was instrumental in securing the $10,000.00 sponsorship, which will keep the memory of Ron SR and JR alive. Hughes SR was a top Midget driver during the 60’s and 70’s before turning over the driving duties to Ron JR.
This year’s “Klassic” will be known as the “Kornhusker Midget Klassic” and will be contested at Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday night July 27th and at Butler County Motorplex in Rising City, Nebraska on Monday night July 28th. Both are 1st class high banked dirt ovals, and will be sanctioned by the American Independent Midget Series (AIMS) with co-sanctions from the Southern Midget Racing Series (SMRS) and the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA).
