2008 Adams County Speedway season set to go green

From Greg Hampel, Adams County Speedway

The 2008 Adams County Speedway season is just about set to go green.
This will be the 25th season under the NASCAR banner for the speedway,
and the 26th under the promotion of Hampel Racing. This will be the
second season under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner.

Practice day for the 2008 season is scheduled for April 5th. The pit
gate will open at 2:00 and hot laps will start between 4:00 and 5:00,
depending on how soon everyone gets signed in and NASCAR licenses
purchased. Pit passes will be $5. To encourage NASCAR license
purchases a coupon packet given to all members who get signed up on
practice day at the latest. The grandstands will be open and have free
admission.

Should practice day be cancelled due to weather, pit gate personnel
will be at J.O.'s in downtown Corning starting at 4:00 to process
NASCAR licenses, register car numbers, collect the remainder of the
pit pad fees, and distribute AMB transponders. Please try to come
register if we rain out practice so we can help the pit gate lines for
opening night. Rain or shine, J.O.'s will host their annual practice
day party with everyone's favorite, free food, being served at 7:00
with dancing starting at 9:00.

Opening night will be April 12th. Grandstand admission will be $10 for
adults, $5 for students, and 12 and under free. The grandstand will
open at 5:00 with hot laps at 6:30 and the first race of 2008 taking
the track at 7:00. Opening night pit gate will open at 4:00 at the
latest. We may open the pit gate sooner and will let everyone know
after practice day. We will post that information at
www.acspeedway.com For other questions, call 712-785-3271.

Now to the additional information not listed in the press release that
may pertain to drivers, fans, crews or all of the above.

Licenses and coupons: As stated, for those getting their NASCAR
licenses bought by practice day at the latest there is a coupon packet
available for you. It includes 4 grandstand passes from Hampel Racing
and 4 food coupons from the Adams County Fair and Racing Association.
We will also need to thank Staci Hull from the Corning Community
Chamber of Commerce for putting together their "Sample Corning" coupon
booklet again. Apparently, this was in the planning stages, but after
I had contacted a few businesses I then called Staci and she offered
to put the booklet into high gear and get it done in time for us to
use. We also have a discount code that will be provided to members for
www.petheirs.com and products purchased with this discount code will
put money into the track's point fund money at the end of the season.
BUT REMEMBER THIS, I HAVE SAID THAT AFTER PRACTICE DAY I WILL NOT BE
ISSUING THE GRANDSTAND PASSES AND THE FOOD COUPONS WILL BE GONE FROM
THE PACKETS AS WELL, SO WAITING TILL OPENING NIGHT TO PURCHASE YOUR
NASCAR LICENSE WILL COST YOU $60 WORTH OF TICKETS!!! This should be
plenty of incentive to get you license done before opening night. If
you cannot make it to practice then mail it to me with a check made
out to NASCAR.

TRANSPONDERS: If you would like to swing by the office this week to
get your hard-wired transponder that would be much appreciated as I
will have plenty to do on Saturday. Also, if you ran a hard-wired last
year and don't plan to run enough to warrant having one this year, let
me know with a call so I can let someone else use it.

16 AND UNDER IN THE PITS: I have just now completed my insurance
purchase for the year. We have switched companies for the insurance on
the grandstand and the non-NASCAR members in the pits. We will have
the forms at the track for anyone needing to sign up their kids for
going into the pits. It is a yearly form to sign, so even if you did
one last year, you need to do it again this year. Also, if you cannot
make it to practice, let me know and I will mail you the form so you
can have it done before coming to the track.

See you Saturday for the first of 25 straight sunny Saturdays.

Changes for Autograph Day

From Gary Dominguez, Midwest Racers Autograph Day

As many of you know the resulting rescheduling of racing at Eagle Raceway on April 5th has created a scheduling conflict with Midwest Racers Autograph Day. In cooperation with Eagle Raceway on the rescheduled Icebreaker Challenge, we have implemented the following policy;

1) We will have a special area exclusively for cars at Autograph Day that will be running at Eagle Raceway that evening. This area will help facilitate an early departure for the track. You must notify a committee member upon arrival of your intention to run at the Icebreaker so you can be placed in this area. You can also call ahead to reserve a spot in this area by calling traffic coordinator Bruce Steenson at 402 499-3458

2) Cars competing in the Icebreaker will be allowed to leave at 2PM in order to make it to the track in ample time. Cars not competing in the event will still be expected to remain on display until the 4 PM closing time. (Remember, your sponsors are counting on you for maximum exposure, so it would be to your advantage to stay as long as possible).

3) Discount coupons supplied by Eagle Raceway to the Icebreaker Challenge Grandstand Admission will be available only at Autograph Day. In order to receive the discount coupons for their sponsors, friends and family, all participants MUST stay until their designated times.

4) Additional rules regarding the $500 sponsorship drawing for the first 25 cars signed up are forthcoming from our sponsor Oswald Trucking Inc.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation in making both of these events successful! Thanks also to Eagle Raceway for their cooperation!

Racer has more than track in mind

From the Grand Island Independent
http://www.theindependent.com/stories/03222008/spo_fossberg22.shtml

by Brad Fossberg

Sometimes in sports you meet people who impress you for reasons other
than their athletic accomplishments. Modified driver Tyler Smith of
Gibbon is one of those people. The 20-year-old is entering his third
season competing in the IMCA Modified division at Mid-Nebraska
Speedway, although this year is shaping up to be his most memorable.

In the off-season area stock car drivers often wrestle with their
identity and what their car will look like when it hits the track. For
Smith the look and the inspiration came in a dream.

"It's a weird story," Smith said. "It's probably the weirdest thing
that's ever happened to me."

Dreams are sometimes hard to recall but Smith remembers the message of
this vision was simple: Do something special.

So the search was on to find a cause something to race for. He'd
always thought St. Jude's Hospital was special because of what it did
for kids. On the other hand, so many people are impacted by the
American Cancer Society. Along the way, the Smith clan was unwillingly
introduced to Multiple Sclerosis.

"We had a family member that was diagnosed with MS," Smith said. "So
we looked into racing for them and the MS people were really excited."

It's turned into a racing crusade.

"It's been kind of overwhelming," Smith said. "I've never really seen
me doing something like this. But it feels pretty good."

Five months work and a coat of neon-orange paint and the car was ready
for the unveiling during National Multiple Sclerosis week.

"We kind of rolled it out last week and we'll have it in the car show
at the Conestoga Mall next weekend," Smith said.

A year and a half in a used modified has convinced Smith that he is
ready to race in a car that truly has his brand on it.

"After three years of research we built a brand new car this year,"
Smith said. "It's a little bit of seven different chassis all rolled
into one."

Smith would like to use his "Monster Mod" to improve on last year's
top-10 finish at Mid-Nebraska Speedway. A seventh place trophy was,
according to Smith, "not good enough."

A win here and there will be nice this year but Smith said he'd also
like to raise awareness about MS.

"Not many people know much about the disease, like there's no cure,"
Smith said. "I hope fans stop by at a show or at the races and ask
questions."

Whether he wins a race or not all the hard work has already paid off.

"A little boy saw the car and his eyes got as big as tires," Smith
said. "He thought my car was pretty cool so that probably made my
season before it even starts."

Smith has had two major influences in his short race career. His
father, former racer Gene Smith, and former area modified driver
Jeremy Eatherton.

I'm sure both are proud of what this young man has already
accomplished this year without turning a lap.

In between race nights some 200 people are diagnosed with Multiple
Sclerosis. Each lap turned by Smith gets us one step closer to a day
that we don't have to race for a cure.

Sponsorship for 5th Annual Midget Klassic and Ron Hughes JR and SR Memorial Race Named

American Independent Midget Series

Arvada, CO. - Jaguar Downhole Tools of Conroe, Texas, who provides services for the oil field industry, has agreed to renew their sponsorship of the 5th Annual Midget Klassic race and the Ron Hughes JR and SR Memorial Race.

Jaguar Downhole Tools, which was formed in 2003, manufactures performance straight hole drilling motors for the oil and gas industry. Their headquarters are in Conroe, Texas, with offices in Midland and Palestine Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Ron Hughes SR., one of the founders and co-owners of Jaguar, passed away in October of 2007, less than 90 days after competing in the 4th Annual Midget Klassic at Dodge City, KS.

Ron Hughes JR., who was a many time Texas Midget Champion, and won some 100 Feature events, was killed in a Midget racing crash at Devils Bowl Speedway in 1991.

Allen pockets 3 grand in USMTS finale

By Jeff Nun, USMTS

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (March 22) — On Friday and Saturday, the Junction Motor Speedway played host to the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour for the 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw. While cold and windy conditions kept the racing surface dry and the fans bundled up, the drivers provided plenty of heat with nail-biting finishes both nights.

When all was said and done, it was a pair of Sunflower State pilots taking the bulk of the prize money back home across the Kansas border.

Justin Boney of Leavenworth, Kan., earned his first win since 2003 on Friday night, while Saturday's laurels went to John Allen of Chanute, Kan. Just one week shy of going six years without a win under the USMTS banner, the veteran Modified racer used a late-race restart to snag the lead from Brad Waits, then pull away for the $3,000 victory.

An extremely dry racing surface produced little passing in the Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains, while thick dust made for treacherous racing.

“I can give us a better racetrack,” Junction Motor Speedway owner and promoter Delmar Friesen told USMTS and track officials prior to the start of the 30-lap Holley “A” Main.

So, Friesen climbed aboard the water truck and began to lay down some heavy water on the top and bottom of the racetrack to not only make it safer, but produce a better finale for the race fans who braved the chilly weather.

“It's one of those things where if we have a big crash, then I'm the ass,” he explained. “We had to give it a shot.”

The shot turned out to be a bulls-eye as the feature race produced plenty of action, multiple grooves and four lead changes among three drivers.

“Overall it added about 20 minutes to the program, but I think we got a pretty good racetrack out of it,” Friesen added.

Mike Sorensen grabbed the early lead from polesitter Mark Noble, and led the first three circuits before giving up the lead to Allen, who was moving quickly on the bottom of the racetrack. On lap 10, Waits found the high side of the high-banked 3/8-mile oval to his liking and powered around Allen for the top spot.

On lap 18, the second caution flag of the race waved and Waits saw his lead of nearly a straight-away wiped out. He picked right up where he left off, however, and began to pull away from Allen while Oklahoma's Tommy Weder Jr. followed Waits' high line into the second spot.

The race's third and final yellow flag waved with just two laps to go, and again Waits paced the field for the double-file restart and a green-white-checkered finish. As the green flag waved, Allen dove to the inside of Waits and held the advantage as the leaders dove into the first turn. Allen was able to slide up in front of Waits, then powered his way around the top side of the racetrack to take the his first O’Reilly USMTS National Tour victory since March 29, 2002.

For a disappointed Waits, it was his second runner-up finish in as many days.

“Did you spin the tires,” USMTS promoter Todd Staley asked Waits, referring to the restart with two laps to go.

Waits just grimaced and nodded.

The final restart did not bode well for Weder either, as he slipped back to fourth at the finish behind Zack VanderBeek, who scored his second third-place finish of the doubleheader weekend. Steve Kosiski rounded out the top-5 after winning the first Real Racing Wheels “B” Main and starting 13th in the main event.

Alan Mondus, Jay Noteboom, Kelly Shryock, Sorensen and Jon Tesch finished sixth through 10th, respectively.

Despite struggling throughout the event, Shryock earned the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award and enough points to reclaim the points lead in the Great Plains Region. VanderBeek moved up to second in the rankings, just nine markers back of the eight-time O’Reilly USMTS National Champion (286 to 279). With the win, Allen moved up to third with 274 points, followed by Boney (271), Tesch (261), Kosiski (237), Weder (213), Brandon Kenny (203), Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar Rookie of the Year points leader Dereck Ramirez (189), defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn and Josh Reisch (185 each).

Next up for the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour will be a Show-Me State tripleheader on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 28-30. The action kicks off at the L A Raceway in La Monte, Mo., on Friday, then moves on to the Lebanon I-44 Speedway and Monett Speedway on Saturday and Sunday for the 5th Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Missouri Nationals. All five races will earn points for drivers in the Mo-Kan Region, and all five will pay a minimum of $2,000 to win and $250 to start the main event.

Boney returns to USMTS Winners Circle in Nebraska Spring Thaw Opener

by Jeff Nun, USMTS

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (March 21) — Against a stout field of heavy hitters, Justin Boney raced with a heavy heart and a heavy right foot Friday night to capture the opening night win of the 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw at the Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb.

"We're still working some things out in the car, but this win is encouraging" said Boney, "I want to dedicate this win for my grandmother."

It was the first O’Reilly USMTS National Tour win since 2003 for the Leavenworth, Kan., driver, whose grandmother passed away last week.

Making his first-ever stop at the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval, the 2002 Rookies Rockin' Sports Bar Rookie of the Year started fourth in the main event, but wrestled the lead away on lap 2 from last year's top rookie, Scott Green. Despite five cautions, including one with two laps remaining, Boney was able to fend off all challengers as he rode the high side of the racetrack to victory.

"The track was smooth up on top," said Boney, "I just told myself to stay up top and everything came around."

The win was worth $2,000 and also propelled Boney to the top of the Great Plains Region standings.

Going into the second turn on the final lap, Brad Waits nosed ahead of Boney and could very well have delivered a "slide job" to shut the door on Boney. Instead, the veteran from Zumbrota, Minn., held his line and gave Boney just enough room to power back around the outside to secure the top spot.

Meanwhile, 14th-starting Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon, Iowa, edged in front of Waits in the final turn but watched as Waits powered back ahead to take the runner-up position by a bumper.

Defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn of Slayton, Minn., challenged Boney for the lead in the early stages of the 30-lapper, but had to settle for a fourth-place paycheck at the end of the night. Eight-time O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, started ninth in the main event but slid all the way back as far as 14th during the first 10 laps before finding his groove and recovering for a fifth-place finish.

Jon Tesch, John Allen, 26th-starting Jay Noteboom, Mark Noble and Green rounded out the top-10, respectively.

With two races in the books, the Great Plains Region points battle is heating up with Boney just one marker ahead of Shryock (198 to 197), followed by Tesch with 185 points. The rest of the current top-10 are VanderBeek (183), Allen (171), Steve Kosiski (145), Krohn (140), Josh Reisch (140), Brandon Kenny (132) and Al Hejna (125).

The action continues on Saturday for round 2 of the 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw. Gates will open at 10 a.m. with hot laps slated for 1:30 p.m. and racing to follow. Open Stock Cars will also be on the card racing for $300 to win.

Race fans can stop by Casey's General Store locations in York and Geneva on Saturday to pick up a coupon good for $2 off admission price at the racetrack.

Located five miles south of I-80 (York Exit) on U.S. Hwy. 81, Junction Motor Speedway is a state-of-the-art facility entering its fifth year of operation. The track is a super-fast, 3/8-mile clay oval boasting 80-foot-wide straight-aways, making for a lot of racing room for the drivers and a lot of wheel-to-wheel action for fans.

Terry McCarl & son Austin to run Eagle Icebreaker

Eagle show is debut for third generation driver

From TerryMcCarl.com

March 18, 2008 – A new sprint car career begins this month. Fifteen year old Austin McCarl will be hitting a dirt oval near you soon! Austin is the son of World of Outlaws driver, Terry McCarl, and he’s armed and ready for the Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. He will be piloting the Janet Holbrook #17 360 machine in Midwest competition.

Austin, the 2007 English Creek Speedway Micro-Sprint champion, will be sponsored by Big Game Treestands, Bosma Poultry, DeBerg Concrete, Phil & Vivian and Burnett Rock and Landscaping. The team will be based out of the resurrected shop of his grandfather, Lenard McCarl.

“It’s been a long time coming,” says the Southeast Polk High School freshman. “I’ve looked forward to it for awhile. We’ll be working hard here the next couple weeks in the garage to get ready. I adjusted well to the Micro from the go-kart, but I’m sure this will be different. We’ll find out quick!” A practice night is scheduled at Eagle on Friday the 28th, so weather-pending that will provide a chance to get a little bit comfortable in the Kistler powered Eagle.

Terry has a word of advice for Austin in working with Lenard. “I will tell him to never say, ‘My dad said to do this or that!’” In reality, TMAC has a lot of respect for his father. “Lenard is one of the smartest guys in the business, and hopefully, he can teach Austin the mechanical side,” he says. “The best drivers are the ones who can set the car up themselves, and know the ins and outs of the car. I think he’s the perfect guy to mentor Austin.”

TMAC knows Austin is in good hands with the owner as well. “We’ve known Janet since I drove the Holbrook car in the ‘90’s and we’ve always been good friends, and for the sponsors to do what they’re doing is great too,” he adds.

Austin says of Holbrook, “Janet created a great opportunity for me, and I want to do the best job I can for her.” Janet is excited to help a young driver out. “Austin is a great kid,” she says. “If we get his dad calmed down a little, things will be great! All drivers are different. He can’t set the car up like his dad, because he’s different. Right now, Austin is like a big lump of clay. We don’t know what he’s going to like yet as far as setup. Lenard is the right guy to start him out.”

She adds, “I’m excited to be helping out a third generation McCarl. I’ve known Austin his whole life pretty much, so I’m excited for him. I don’t know what to expect, but we’re going to give it our best shot! I don’t know for sure, but he may be the first sprint car rookie not to drive in a family car.”

It was a surprise for some that Austin will not carry on one of the McCarl family numbers. “I wanted something different,” Austin says of his choice of the #17. “Once I started, I just wanted something different from my grandpa and my dad a little.”

Is this whole thing nerve-wracking from the parent perspective? “On one hand, Lori and I are excited for him, and I know Janet is too,” says TMAC. “On the other hand, as a parent you are a little anxious as well. He’s only 15, but he’s also 6’2” and almost 200 pounds. At least, he won’t be one of the little guys out there!”

A fairly ambitious schedule is planned this season. “We’re looking at around a 30 race schedule for Austin,” says dad. “That’s contingent on him doing well and not tearing a bunch of stuff up. He’ll still be racing the Micro when he isn’t running the sprint, as will Carson. You can’t buy experience, that’s something you just have to get out and do. He needs to race as much as he possibly can.”

Don’t be surprised if you see Austin in something other than a 360 this year. “Hopefully, depending on how things go, I’ll be in a 410 at Huset’s,” he says. “We’ll just kind of see what happens, it’ll depend on how much I tear up! We’ll also run the Micro anytime we’re off from the sprint car. I want to get as much time in the seat as possible.”

Going to the Eagle Raceway high banked 1/3 mile track located 10 miles east of Lincoln, Nebraska doesn’t intimidate the Altoona, Iowa teenager. “I think it’s going to be a fun track. I’ve seen a few races there. High-banked and fast. It should be fun there.”

Austin will have company on the track in the form of his father at the Eagle Ice Breaker. TMAC will pilot the Mark Burch Motorsports #1m, the same car he drove to victory in February at East Bay Raceway in Florida. “It will be exciting to be there with him,” says TMAC. “We get to race, but I want to be there for his first one too!”

USMTS Spring Thaw at JMS, Racing Saturday Moved to 2PM

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (March 19) — The O’Reilly USMTS National Tour springs back into action this weekend with their annual trek to the state-of-the-art Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, for the 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw. After a sizzling season-opening weekend in Kansas last Friday and Saturday, race fans are once again expected to flock to the Cornhusker State for the would-be lidlifter on the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval.

Sub-freezing temperatures two weeks ago greatly hamper track preparation, and rather than subject fans and drivers to arctic cold and a possible rough racing surface, the event was postponed from its original March 7-8 date. No weather worries this weekend, however, as Mother Nature herself appears ready for the high-horsepowered, mud-slinging excitement of America's Hottest Ticket on Dirt.

Defending race winner Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, tops the list of favorites for this year's episode after winning back-to-back main events on Friday and Saturday last year. In addition to seeing him in action on the track, race fans can stop by the Casey's General Store location just north of the I-80 Exit in York prior to the races each day to meet the “A Train” and get a sneak peek of his Casey's General Stores #7 Harris Modified.

While you're there, be sure to pick up a coupon good for $2 off admission price at the racetrack. Race fans can pick up $2-off coupons on Friday and Saturday at both York locations, as well as the Casey's General Store location in Geneva.

All past O’Reilly USMTS National Tour winners at Junction Motor Speedway are primed to return to capture another Nebraska Spring Thaw title. In addition to Hejna, other past champions of this event include 2006 winners Jason Friesen of Sutton, Neb., and Jon Tesch of Watertown, S.D., who captured his first of four main event wins during the 2006 season on his way to a fifth-place finish in the season’s final rankings. 2005 winners Corey Dripps of Waterloo, Iowa, and local hero Johnny “The Jet” Saathoff of Beatrice are expected, along with eight-time O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, who won the first-ever event at JMS in 2004 en route to his sixth O’Reilly USMTS title. Veteran Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minn., ruled the second night of the 2004 doubleheader, while Jason Hughes of Westville, Okla., dominated a special one-day show at the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval on June 22, 2004.

Some of the other O’Reilly USMTS National Tour road warriors expected include defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn, 2006 title runner-up Zack VanderBeek, Dean Mahlstedt, Randy Timms, Jay Noteboom, Steve Kosiski, Justin Boney, Josh Reisch John Allen, Derek Ramirez, Pat Graham, Steve Holzkamper, Tommy Weder Jr., Mike Lineberry, Mark Dotson, Mike Wedelstadt, Scott Green, Jeremy Rasmussen, Bryan Rowland, Dan DeMey, Blake Sedgwick, Dustin Boney, Greg Skaggs and many more.

Local and regional hotshoes expected to contend for this year’s crown include Dylan Smith, Chris Alcorn, Matt Richards, Jake Neal, Chevy Hadan, Jon Thompson, Wade Cross, Chad Dolan, Kurt Johnson, Ricky Stephan and others.

Located five miles south of I-80 (York Exit) on U.S. Hwy. 81, Junction Motor Speedway is a state-of-the-art facility entering its fourth year of operation. The track is a super-fast, 3/8-mile clay oval boasting 80-foot-wide straight-aways, making for a lot of racing room for the drivers and a lot of wheel-to-wheel action for fans.

Gates will open at 34 p.m. on Friday with hot laps slated for 5:30 and racing at 7. On Saturday, gates will open at 10 a.m. with hot laps slated for 1:30 p.m. and racing to follow.

The 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw will be the third and fourth of more than 60 races on the 2008 schedule for the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour, and the second and third events in the Great Plains Region. Friday's main event winner will earn $2,000 while the winner of Saturday's finale will pocket $3,000.

Open Stock Cars will also be on the racing card both nights, racing for $250 and $300 to win, respectively.

Sunday Spring Nationals show snowed out

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 16) – Weather was the winner this afternoon at
Beatrice Speedway.

Heavy snow resulted in cancellation of what was to have been the
third and final Spring Nationals program of the weekend.

Scheduled for the Sunday show were IMCA Modifieds in a $2,000 to win
main event, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts.

Ninety Modifieds were on hand for the 15th annual special, which had
seen Friday's opening night show postponed because of rain to
Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-two Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods ran in the two Saturday
shows. Thirty-six Hobby Stocks and 22 Sport Compacts were signed in
today.

Saathoff scores fifth Spring Nationals career IMCA Modified win

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 15) – Johnny Saathoff won his fifth career
Spring Nationals IMCA Modified feature in 11 years, while Jordan
Grabouski came oh-so-close to winning his second on the same day at
Beatrice Speedway.

Saathoff regained the lead with 10 laps left in the Saturday evening
main event, then ran in front the rest of the way to take the $1,500
checkers ahead of fellow Beatrice hotshoes Grabouski and Dave
Trauernicht. His collection of Spring Nationals hardware also
includes trophies from 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2006.

Grabouski had been first across the finish line in the feature
postponed from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Trauernicht, the
2003 and 2006 Spring Nationals king, made a strong bid from his 10th
starting spot. Grant Junghans of Manhattan, Kan., and Marlyn Seidler
of Underwood, N.D., rounded out the top five.

Saathoff and Grabouski drew front row positions for the 30-lapper,
with Grabouski taking the early lead ahead of Saathoff, Junghans and
Randy Brands of Boyden, Iowa. Saathoff was leading the pack when the
second circuit was scored, settling in at the point while the fight
for second through fifth developed behind him.

Seidler motored past Brands on lap four; yellows brought out re-
starts on laps 10 and 12 before Trauernicht made his way into the top
five. Junghans caught Saathoff at midway but lost the spot four laps
later.

A three-car tangle brought the caution back out on lap 23. Grabouski
and Trauernicht made their moves into second and third, respectively,
following the re-start.

Saathoff joins Grabouski on the growing list of Fast Shafts All-Star
ballot qualifiers. Modified features at Spring Nationals are also
part of the Larry Shaw Racing Blood, Sweat and Tears Series.

Brett Moffitt’s long pursuit of Les Lundquist paid off with a $500
victory in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main.

Lundquist, from Sioux City, Iowa, led much of the 20-lapper before
Moffitt, from Grimes, Iowa, made what proved to be the winning pass.

Dusty Leonard of Marysville, Kan., Travis Runcie of Beatrice and Troy
Jerovetz of Green Bay, Wis., followed at the finish. The only caution
of the contest came on lap four.

Chelsea, Iowa, charger Nick Murty paced the qualifying feature for
IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, ahead of B.J. Dauer from Marquette, Kan.,
and defending Spring Nationals winner Andy Gregg of Lincoln.

Sunday’s 2 p.m. show at Beatrice sports a $2,000 to win feature for
the Modifieds, the $500 to win Hobby Stock Challenge and a $200 to
win feature for IMCA Sport Compacts.

Grabouski tops first Spring Nationals IMCA Modified feature

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 15) – Jordan Grabouski led the last five times
around the track in winning the rain delayed Spring Nationals opening
feature for IMCA Modifieds at Beatrice Speedway.

Grabouski, from Beatrice, caught Ben Seidler for the front spot on
lap 21 and held off the Underwood, N.D., challenger the rest of the
way to collect $1,000. The victory also put Grabouski on the ballot
for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.

Defending national champion Jared Siefert of Green Bay, Wis., started
outside row one and looked to have the opener postponed from Friday
night well in hand, building a lead of as much as six car lengths
before his transmission broke on the 16th circuit.

Seidler had run second from the onset, trying unsuccessfully to find
a way past Siefert following re-starts on laps five, 10 and 13.

Johnny Saathoff of Beatrice and Ricky Alvarado of Delta, Colo., both
advanced from “B” features to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Ronnie Wallace of North Platte was fifth.

More than 80 Modifieds vied in 10 heat races and five “B’ races, with
the winner of each heat and the top three in each “B” making the
feature, which doubled as the first event in the Larry Shaw Racing
Blood, Sweat and Tears Series.

Another hometown driver, Benji Legg, topped the qualifying feature
for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, taking the checkers in front
of Les Lundquist of Sioux City, Iowa, and Dusty Leonard of
Marysville, Kan.

The $500 to win main event for that division is on tap for Saturday’s
second show. Modifieds race for a top prize of $1,500, with seven new
entries in town, while IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks begin qualifying.

On deck for Sunday at Beatrice is the $2,000 to win Modified feature.
Hobbies race for $500 to win and IMCA Sport Compacts chase a $200 top
check.

Dover Dazzles in ASCS Gulf Coast Nationals at HRP

Lonnie Wheatley, BAYTOWN, Texas (March 1, 2008) - Opportunity knocked in
Houston Raceway Park's Inaugural Gulf Coast Nationals and Jack Dover took
full advantage to collect the $3,000 winner's share in Saturday night's
30-lap American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region feature event.

The 18-year-old from Springfield, NE, found himself back on the point when
Garry Lee Maier and Jason Johnson tangled while dicing for the lead, then
led the rest of the way to secure the victory aboard Marc & Lori Dover's
Eckley-powered 3D Auto Transport No. 53 Eagle.

Starting from the pole position, Dover outgunned fellow front row starter
Maier for the early lead. Working through several early cautions, Dover held
off Maier as Jason Johnson climbed from eighth to third by the fifth lap.

Dover surrendered the lead soon after, with Maier and Johnson slipping by as
the lead trio approached lapped traffic. But as Johnson chased down a second
win in as many nights, he climbed Maier's right rear tire several laps
before the midway point and went for a wild ride. Johnson walked away from
his mangled mount uninjured, with Maier done for the night as well.

Dover found himself back in front on the restart and never looked back as he
collected his second career ASCS triumph and first Gulf South Regional score
in front of a closing Jimmy Brooks, with tenth-starter Travis Rilat a close
third.

Don Grable claimed fourth, with Chris Sweeney climbing from 15th to round
out the top five. Defending series champion Brandon Berryman raced from 19th
to sixth, with Wayne Johnson rebounding from a pair of trips to the work
area to salvage a seventh-place finish.

Kevin Ramey advanced ten positions to claim eighth, with Greg Rilat and
22nd-starter Kathryne Minter completing the top ten.

Jason Johnson, Maier, Greg Rilat and Wes Miller topped heat race action for
Saturday night's 35-car field, with Berryman winning the 12-lap "B" Main.

Tripleheader weekend to open O'Reilly USMTS National Tour

From USMTS

With the postponement of this weekend's 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw, the
rugged road warriors of the O'Reilly USMTS National Tour now set their
sights on a big three-race weekend to kick off an exciting 2008 campaign for
America's Hottest Ticket on Dirt.

FRIDAY, MARCH 14 - U.S. RACEWAY, OSBORN, MO

The first race of the season will be at a track where the O'Reilly USMTS
National Tour will be visiting for the first time ever as the Mod Masters
invade the U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., on Friday, March 14. Although
it's the first time, it won't be the last as the series returns to the
high-banked 1/3-mile oval on Friday, June 20, and again during the Casey's
General Stores Hunt for the USMTS National Championship on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

The U.S. 36 Raceway is located 50 miles northeast of Kansas City on I-35 to
Exit 54, then 6.3 miles west on US 36, then 0.1 mile north on SR 33 (ESR).
For more information, visit www.us36raceway.com or call the track at (816)
675-2279. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and grandstands open at 4. Hot laps are
at 6:30 with the first heat race at 7.

Race fans can pick up discount coupons for $2 off at both Casey's General
Stores locations in Cameron and at the 2423 N. Woodbine Rd. location in St.
Joseph on race day. O'Reilly USMTS National Tour standout Al Hejna and his
Casey's-sponsored machine will make an appearance at the Casey's location at
405 Grand Ave. in Cameron from 1-3 p.m. on Friday.

This inaugural event will be the first race in both the Great Plains Region
and Central States Region. Friday's main event winner will pocket $2,000 and
each of the 24 starters will earn at least $200.

SATURDAY, MARCH 15 - HUMBOLDT SPEEDWAY, HUMBOLDT, KS

The Humboldt (Kan.) Speedway will host the "3rd Annual Havoc at The Hummer"
on Saturday, March 15. Defending USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn is the
defending race winner at Ron and Rhenda Whitworth's speedy 1/4-mile oval,
and will be looking to repeat in the first race of the Mo-Kan Region and
pick up the $2,000 top prize.

The Humboldt Speedway is located 0.1 mile west of US 169 at the Humboldt
Exit, then 0.5 mile south, then 0.9 mile east. For more information, visit
www.humboldtspeedway.com or call the office at (620) 431-2470 or the track

laps are at 5:30 with the first heat race at 6.

Race fans can pick up $2-off discount coupons at Casey's General Stores

Casey's location at 712 E. Madison Ave. in Iola from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday.

SUNDAY, MARCH 16 - THUNDERHILL SPEEDWAY, MAYETTA, KS

The tripleheader race weekend will wrap up on Sunday, March 16, at the
Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan., for the "6th Annual Kansas Spring
Fling." Greg Skaggs of Bixby, Okla., captured the first of his three
O'Reilly USMTS National Tour wins last season at Mayetta,
and he'll be one of the favorites again this year when the intimidating
field of peerless mud-slingers return to the lightning-fast 4/10-mile
high-banked clay oval near the northern border of the Sunflower State.

The Thunderhill Speedway is located 14.6 miles north of US 24 on US 75 to

earn at least $200.
