Icebreaker Challenge Cancelled - No Rescheduling

From Eagle Raceway

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we reluctantly announce that this
year's Icebreaker Challenge will not be held this weekend. Also, in order to
avoid conflicts with other area racing facility's schedules, we will not be
rescheduling it this year.

At the current time, plans are being formed to use the funds for the
Icebreaker Challenge to expand the season-ending Nebraska Cup. As soon as
further information on this is available it will be posted here and on the
website at www.eagleraceway.com

We look forward to seeing everyone at the open Practice night on Friday
April 17th and again at our first regular season event on Saturday April
18th as the 360 Championship Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Hobby Stocks and
IMCA Sport Compacts take to the high banks of "America's Home Track" Eagle

Saathoff scores second Spring Nationals win of weekend

By Dusty Wiegert
BEATRICE, Neb. (March 22) – Johnny Saathoff went an entire year
between winning his career fifth and sixth IMCA Modified Spring
Nationals features.

The wait between wins six and seven was just one day.

Saathoff followed his Saturday night checkers with the $2,000 Sunday
victory at Beatrice Speedway, while Andy Gregg paced the IMCA Sunoco
Hobby Stocks and Alex Fink was first in the IMCA Mach-1 Sport Com
pact feature.

After drawing the pole for the 30-lap Spring Nationals finale,
Saathoff jumped in front of outside row one starter Greg Metz,
literally took off past the halfway point and proved uncatchable at
his hometown track de spite late race lapped traffic.

Metz held off a hard charging Jay Noteboom for second, with Dominic
Ursetta and night one winner Ricky Alvarado rounding out the top five.

It appeared the Hobby Stock win would go to R.J. Macku for the second
night in a row as he started on the pole and quickly took charge.

Exiting turn four a handful of laps into the race, however, he got
too high and allowed Gregg and Travis Burger to slip by.

Macku later spun in the other set of turns. Gregg held off Burger to
take his second career Spring Nation als win, his first coming in
2007. Jim Buss and Adam Armstrong followed.

Fink scored the Sport Compact win after taking the lead from the
front row. Numerous yellows slowed the action early before Fink
coasted to the win after slicing his way through traffic.

The more interesting battle was for second between Pete Fink Jr. and
Alex Loveless. Both drivers used lapped traffic to make moves with
Fink Jr. finishing second, Loveless third, and Taylor Griffin fourth.

Saathoff jets to sixth Spring Nationals crown, Alvarado tops Saturday's scheduled feature

By Dusty Wiegert
BEATRICE, Neb. (March 21) - Johnny Saathoff won his career sixth
Spring Nationals feature before Ricky Alvarado ruled the IMCA
Modifieds at Beatrice Speedway's season-opening special for the first
time.

Hometown hotshoe Saathoff topped the feature postponed following the
late night power outage at the track on Friday, earning $1,000.
Alvarado collected the $1,500 check for Saturday's scheduled event;
both races were qualifiers for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational
ballot.

Saathoff shot out to an early lead with Jay Noteboom close behind,
then pulled out to decent advantage between yellow flags.

With the help of timely cautions, David Murray Jr. moved into the
battle and began putting pressure on Saathoff. Murray briefly took
the lead while yellows slowed the action with five and then three
laps to go.

In the end Saathoff was just too much for Murray, with Alvarado,
Jeremy Mills and Greg Metz rounding out the top five. Saathoff also
owns hardware from the 1997, 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2008 Spring Nationals.

Murray and Alvarado drew front row starts for the scheduled feature
on Saturday. Alvarado got a jump at the drop of the green with Murray
settling in behind.

Several cautions early on were the only holdups as Alvarado pulled
away to a full straightaway lead by halfway point, then dominated to
take his first Spring Nationals title.

Metz got past Murray at the finish for second. Sean Jerovetz and
Noteboom were fourth and fifth, respec tively.

After advancing from 11th to second, Tyler Frye made his move when it
mattered most in the rescheduled Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main.

Coming out of turn four to take the checkered flag, Frye slipped to
the inside of Jesse Sobbing to take the win in a photo finish.

Sobbing, Benji Legg and defending national champion Luke Wanninger
finished out the top four.

Wanninger won comfortably in Saturday's scheduled event, taking the
checkers despite the best efforts of Legg, Sobbing and Frye

R.J. Macku took the early lead from the front row and proved to be no
match for the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock field.

Ryan Roschewski raced his way to second but count not reel in Macku.
Tony Spunaugle, and Eric Chab followed Roschewski across the stripe.

The 16th annual Spring Nationals concludes Sunday with a $2,000 to
win feature for the IMCA Modifieds. The Hobby Stocks and IMCA Mach-1
Sport Compacts also see action.

Lights go out, opening night interrupted at Spring Nationals

BEATRICE, Neb. (March 20) - The lights went out before the final
checkered flag flew on opening night of the Spring Nationals special
at Beatrice Speedway.

As a result, Friday's program will be completed during a Saturday
session set to start at 5 p.m. The scheduled show will follow.

The 2009 season lidlifter boasted 124 IMCA Modified from 11 states
and Saskatchewan and 42 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods from six
states. Modified qualifying was done and the first of three Northern
SportMod "B" features was in the books late Friday when the track
lights went dark.

Track officials elected to postpone the rest of the program and have
repairs made during the day on Saturday.

Jay Noteboom and five-time Spring Nationals winner Johnny Saathoff
will start on the front row when the Modified feature goes green.
Dave Trauernicht, twice a Spring Nationals winner, will line up
behind Saathoff.

The postponed Modified feature pays $1,000 to win, while Saturday's
scheduled race pays $1,500 and the Sunday feature is good for $2,000.
All three are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying
events.

Both postponed and scheduled Northern SportMod features pay $500 to
win. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks also race for $300 to win tonight and
Sunday.

Sunday's show also features IMCA Mach-1 Sport Compacts in a $200 to
win feature.

Optimism pt. II

I had planned a "part II" to my earlier Optimism Pt. I editorial. Instead of another list of events at area tracks that we should be thankful for, I was detoured by the news of the closing of Manzanita Speedway in Arizona.

Throughout it's illustrious history, the track hosted such events as the Western World Championships, on nearly the level of the Knoxville Nationals, and was the site of the experiment that was the Slick 50 Series, in which Outlaw Sprint cars took to the desert half-mile in the live, prime-time, dead of winter event.

In the wake of the news, there's been recounting of memories, and of course, the inevitable "Save Manzy" campaign, in which supporters are encouraged to sign a non-binding petition to stop the multi-million-dollar-profit-and-escape-from-environmental-regulation bulldozer that is going to bury the track.

But really, what does all this pining and whining do? The bogus petitions remind me of the letter-writing campaigns to save flagging TV shows in the 80's and 90's. Really...even if the campaign was successful, the program was not given a resurrection, but merely a kick of life support long enough to give the show a "proper burial" as opposed to just yanking the plug.

I'm sure that most everyone reading this has seen tracks they went to die.

We've also seen new ones born.

Capital Beach died, and Midwest Speedway filled a void. It too died, only to have Eagle Raceway pick up the slack. Within the past 15 years, we've seen I-80 Speedway, Butler County Motorplex and Junction Motor Speedway come to life. Sometimes the show just changes address. Others, it splits and becomes a new event. Across the country, tracks at Las Vegas, and the complex at Wheatland, MO are just a few of the places where NEW memories and new legacies will be born. Knoxville has transformed completely compared to when I was there 12 years ago; and was a different place compared to the 70's and 80's. Eldora is undergoing a 21st century transformation. They have to change, or they die.

Langhorne, Ascot, Manzanita, and on an on all died. But racing survives. Racetracks are inanimate objects. They're carved out of cornfields, convenient terrain...even temporary facilities in expo halls. What builds them is the living spirit in us that has the passion for RACING. There's time to be bummed, but now our job is not to spend our time pining for what's lost, but put our efforts into making what we have succeed, so when that track goes away (and they all will), we have plenty of time to remember all the years of good times we had back when...while enjoying the new place that our passion for the sport built.

RacinBoys.com to Host ASCS Internet Broadcast

The Internet will begin buzzing on March 17th with the introduction of the
Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series Motorsports Hour. This will be a
weekly show devoted to the ASCS. It will be done at www.RacinBoys.com
Studios, on RacinBoys TV Live, which is LIVE internet TELEVISION. It will
air on Tuesday nights at 7 PM Central Time. Scott Traylor and Kirk Elliott
will host the show. Their current show averages between 5,000 and 7,000
viewers per week.  The show will be heavily promoted at each of our national
tour events which should grow the viewers more and more each week.

The show will start next Tuesday March 17th and run through November 3.

This should be a great thing for everyone because they will be giving
coverage to each region that we have.

Finally, we are going to encourage them to talk to a lot of our regional
drivers (especially the weekend winners).  If you or any of your drivers DO
NOT want the RacinBoys to call them, please let us know so that we can take
them off of the list.  It is another chance for the drivers to get their
sponsors names out there and get them some added exposure.  This is going to
be a cool show!  Thanks for your help and thank the drivers for their help
as well.

Myer back in Victory Lane with Nebraska Spring Thaw Triumph

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (March 6) – So far so good for Tommy Myer.

Up against a stout field of 55 entries for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour season opener Friday night at the Junction Motor Speedway, Myer came in as one of the hottest drivers in the country.

Last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway dirt track, Myer turned his first laps in a brand new all-black GRT Modified for car owners Chris and Linda Noel. He christened his new ride by winning his heat from the 14th starting spot, then finished second and fourth, respectively, in the weekend's two main events.

Any mention of “beginner's luck” or “fluke” was thrown out the window Friday night as Myer delivered a good old-fashioned butt-whooping on a talent-laden main event in the 6th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw.

Dustin Boney may have been the only driver on the 26-car starting grid that had anything for Myer. After starting fourth, Boney drove around polesitter Corey Dripps to lead the first of 30 laps on the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval.

Boney led the first 17 laps and was increasing the gap between himself and Jason Friesen before suddenly dropping out of the race with a broken fan belt.

Friesen led the next three laps before Myer, who started 18th, took the lead on lap 21. Once in front, Myer maneuvered his way through lapped traffic and led the final nine laps going away.

Myer is second on the USMTS all-time wins list behind Kelly Shryock, but Friday's $2,000 victory was his first since Aug. 31, 2007.

After just 15 starts in a winless season last year, Myer is “back in black” in 2009 with hopes of contending for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Championship.

“We plan to run the entire series this year,” said the 43-year-old from Blooming Prairie, Minn. “So far, so good. Hopefully we can keep it up for a while longer and be in good position when the Hunt starts.”

Continuing where he left off in December with a win at the Texas Winter Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, Zack VanderBeek also turned in a crowd-pleasing performance as he raced from 16th at the start to a runner-up finish, getting by Friesen with one lap to go in the main event.

Scott Green took fourth, and Shryock came from 11th to finish fifth. Dripps, Jon Tesch, Ken Schrader, David Holder and Don Eischens rounded out the top-10 finishers.

Myer was the PBM Performance Products Hard Charger of the race, passing 17 cars in 30 laps.

The Ruter Farms Long Tow Award went to Jake Bitker of Halstad, Minn., who traveled 569.3 miles (one way) to McCool Junction, Neb.

With the first race in he books, Myer leads the Great Plains Region points over VanderBeek (118 to 109), followed by Friesen (94), Tesch (91), Shryock (90), Green (89), Schrader (82), Dripps (81), Dereck Ramirez (71) and Rich Lewerke (70).

In the DandyLand Farms Rookie of the Year points, Eischens leads Lewerke by two markers (25 to 23), followed by Andrew Gordon (21) and a five-way tie for fourth between Mike Albertsen, Arne Anderson, Dan DeMey, Jesse Dennis and Anthony Mann with 10 points each.

Thanks to Myer's victory, Sput’s Racing Engines is back atop the COMP Cams Engine Builder of the Year standings while GRT Race Cars claims the initial top spot in the USMTS Chassis Builders Championship.

Due to extreme cold and wind, plus the threat of rain and snow during the day, officials from the Junction Motor Speedway and the USMTS have canceled the show for Saturday, March 7. With more of the same forecasted for Sunday, there will be no rain date.

The USMTS Casey's General Stores National Tour now heads to the Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., for the first time ever on Friday, March 13, then to the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., on Saturday, March 14, for the 4th Annual Havoc at The Hummer. The pair of $2,000-to-win shows will kick off the points battle in the Bear Tire Mo-Kan Region.

To learn more about the United States Modified Touring Series, call the headquarters at (515) 832-7944 or visit www.usmts.com online for the latest news and information from the USMTS.

fastest growing and most popular dirt modified touring series in the
country. Attracting some of the most talented and professional drivers in
America, the fan friendly format and exciting show creates an enthusiastic
and loyal fan base, and the USMTS routinely competes in front of capacity
crowds. With no less than 20,000 men and women competing nationwide on any

type of race car circling America's dirt tracks today, and when it comes to
a touring series that features the Best of the Best in Modified racing, the
USMTS has no equal. Beginning its 11th season in 2009, the USMTS is the
ultimate playground for America's hottest Modified drivers, while the USMTS

Casey's General Stores Named Title Sponsor of USMTS National Tour

ANKENY, Iowa (March 2) - In continuing their commitment to the competitors
and fans of grassroots motorsports, United States Modified Touring Series
officials announced today that Casey's General Stores will be the title
sponsor of the USMTS National Tour for the 2009 racing season.

"In the midst of what has been referred to as the worst economy in nearly a
century, we are both elated and humbled to have the support from Casey's
General Stores again for 2009," said USMTS president Todd Staley. "This is
especially great news for both the drivers and fans of the USMTS."

In addition to becoming the title sponsor of America's premier dirt Modified

Official Convenience Store of the USMTS.

For the fourth straight season, the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General
Stores National Championship will crown the USMTS National Champion.
Eighteen events make up The Hunt for 2009, with all single-day events paying
$3,000 to win. The Sept. 18-19 doubleheader at the North Central Speedway in
Brainerd, Minn., will pay $2,000 to win on Friday and $3,000 to win on

Casey's General Stores Inc. has always been a supporter of many different
styles of racing thru the years. With the Midwest being such a hot bed of
racing, we feel that it is a natural fit as a way for us to show support to
consumers.

Casey's General Stores and their associated vendors will once again have a
direct impact on USMTS drivers by becoming the primary sponsor of several
USMTS teams during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National
Championship. Last season, Al Hejna, Jason Hughes, Mark Noble, Kelly Shryock
and Zack VanderBeek made up the "Casey's Crew" through appearances by these
drivers at local Casey's locations, as well as related branded spin-off
merchandise such as apparel, autograph cards and more.

Each driver will utilize a branded driving suit during their sponsorship
period and each racecar will be professionally detailed with the latest
vehicle wrap technology to give a bright, multi-colored and stand-out
appearance.

"Over these past few years, we've been fortunate to work with both local
employees and management personnel at Casey's General Stores," said USMTS
Communications & Marketing Director Jeff Nun. "We've witnessed first-hand
their dedication to their customers and vendors, and it's this dedication
that has made Casey's the leader in their industry. It's an honor to be
associated with Casey's, and a huge responsibility for us to produce events
that are worthy of carrying the Casey's General Stores name and logo."

Casey's General Stores (NASDAQ: CASY), owns and operates more than 1,470
convenience stores in nine Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,
Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Casey's
is synonymous with quality self-service gasoline and prepared food items,
such as made from scratch pizza and donuts. Some Casey's stores now offer
submarine sandwiches, a broader range of cold beverages, more cappuccino
flavors and a new coffee bar! Customers will still find groceries, health
and beauty aids, automotive products, and other non-food items. Most Casey's
operate in towns with populations of less than 5,000. It is in these same
communities where the majority of USMTS fans, drivers and their families
reside. Race on in to your local Casey's General Store!
