Butler County Motorplex finally had opening night for the 2008 racing season
after Mother Nature took charge of the season for the past three weeks. Jacy
Todd was glad to get the new season started as he is the new promoter at the
speedway. All of the classes for the weekly shows this season are IMCA
sanctioned.
Mike Stearns took the first checkered flag of the season winning the first
of three IMCA Modified heat races with Kyle Berck, Brian Cudly and Mark
Kaspar rounding out the top four. Bob Zoubek won the second heat followed by
Chris Alcorn, Tom Svoboda, and Chey Hadan. Heat three found Scott Styskal in
the winners circle with Jim Krupicka, Mike Densberger and Terry Richards in
the top four.
Quinten Spragg won the first of two IMCA Hobby Stock heat races. Duane
Schroeder, Dusty Poessnecker and Brent VanDiest rounded out the top four.
Shane Hiatt won the second heat race followed by Nick Topil, Shane Schneider
and Mike Goldfuss.
Dan Rhiley and Shawn Turner were the heat winners in the IMCA Sport Compact
division. Benji Legg found the quick way around the speedway to win the
first of two IMCA Sport Modified heat races as Jesse VanLaningham Max
Harder, and Nick Hermsen rounded out the top four. The final Sport Mod heat
win went to Denny Berghahn Jr., with Rod Bronson second, Roin Karpisek third
and Steve Swarthout fourth.
Dan Rhiley took the checkered flag in the Sport Compact A feature Second
place went to Amanda Rhiley with Tony Rost challenging in third and Jeremy
Shanahan was fourth.
Denny Berghahn Jr. won the Sport Mod feature after Benji Legg lost his lead
due to mechanical problems in the race. Travis Runcie finished second with
Kyle Becker third and Jesse Vanlaningham fourth.
Hobby Stock dirver Shane Hiatt took advantage of the outside front row
starting position and led the feature for the win. Mike Goldfuss finished in
secont as Dusty Poessnecker battled his way to third with Quinten Spragg
finishing fourth.
Kyle Berck took the win in the IMCA Modified feature after starting in the
fourth row of the lineup. Berck had to work to get the lead as Chris Alcorn
and Scott Styskal were swapping positions with Berck throughout most of the
race. Alcorn finished second, Styskal was third and fourth went to Tom
Svoboda. There were several caution flags in the feature as mechanical
problems plagued some of the competitors. The final checkered flag was
displayed at 10:34 PM.
